Just picked up an 88 SWB Alpine white - zero and I mean zero rust, runs perfect 116 k miles, new radiator waterpump clutch fan, all new hoses, all fluids changed. 3 issues I am interested in solving - 1st - it has tge rubber mats, but the carpet excepting the rear cargo bay) has been removed, and lost.
other than the Ausie company - any reasonable options here in the USA? or can a local upolsterer fab up something (I expect so, but wonder if anyone had any experience with that)

I ordered mine from a company in MA, I ordered a few samples and found the closest to stock as I could. I ordered in bulk, and made
sure to order unbacked carpet so it would form better. I also purchased (it was minimal additional cost) the matching vinyl border. I took the rubber floor out and used that as a template, then sewed the outer edging to give it a factory look and to keep the edges from fraying. Other than the time it took, The whole job cost maybe $450 I think. www.automotiveinteriors.com

Depending on how "original" you want it to be and your budget. you could do worse than marine carpet. This is usually polypropylene and I have found it conforms well to the floor and is relatively inexpensive. It mostly comes in 1 metre widths and is easy to cut with a sharp knife

Thanks guys.

I have a number of upholstery shops here in town that all do pretty good work, for cheap - competition I guess. So I'll just take the vehicle on a tour de upholsterias! and pick out someone to knock it out. By the time I bought carpet, piping, and a sewing machine, I can get it done cheaper and certainly better - I'll let you know how it goes!

sorry guys, i should have followed up on this. I found a local guy here in fresno that carpetted the front and second seat areas (rear was already carpeted) used some sort of indoor outdoor boat carpeting, sewed darker piping along all of the edges. came out real nice, I'm very happy with it. I guess the original didnt even have rear seat carpeting, just heavy rubber mats - which i have. Cost me 650 bucks - other places here were quoting me between 1000 and 1200 bucks.
