Hi planning on drain & fill transmission myself 2007 RRS HSE, (putting in same amount that got out)
Somebody that have done it in the past can tell me if 5 liters its enough ?
And if better with fluid cold or hot, and at parked at what angle to get the most fluid out ?

Thank you

Re: 5 Liters Enough to Drain & fill Transmission ? Thanks

IF you have the ZF 6hp26 transmission then no 5 litres is probably not enough. Plus there is an exacting procedure to go thru to drain and refill.

Thank you for reply, did a lot of searching in the forum and google and didnt find the exact procedure

When i decide to do it gonna have car as level as possible without incline, and if don't let me put in same amount that drained out, probably have to start the car so i can finish filling it

And then after about driving 500 miles will drain and fill again

Hola,
no it is definitely more like 7 liters or 2 of the Us gallons.
There is more than one way to do it but the easiest way is to have two people, one to pump and one to shout. don't forget you have to run the car.

Re: 5 Liters Enough to Drain & fill Transmission ? Thanks

For a basic drain and fill 5 litres is plenty as it will take between 3 to 4.5 litres but be aware this is not the proper way to change the oil and will only result in 1/3 to 1/2 of the oil being changed. As well, and as mentioned, there is a set procedure to follow in doing a basic change - involving getting the gearbox oil temp between 35 and 50 degrees C and running it through the gears with engine running and with the fill plug removed and letting excess oil drain out or putting more in.

I suggest you take the car to a ZF/LR specialist and get them to do a full flush that changes the full 9 litres of oil in the gearbox.

thanks to everybody for the info
Fine with me only replacing 1/3 to 1/2 of the oil (and being 100% sure isn't over-under filled), so i can have some peace of mind

here in miami have trust issues with shops and mechanics, big big chance they will over/under filled with one of those complicated machines that they probably dont know how to use properly

Re: 5 Liters Enough to Drain & fill Transmission ? Thanks

Some people who do this let the transmission drain over night and seem to get more than 5 liters that way. I think a lot depends upon the position of the torque converter. More of the old fluid out is better.

I did a complete flush on my Jag using the transmission cooler lines and that is a two person job.
