Lease on my daily ‘16 RRS HST is coming up in 2 months. Bittersweet because I’ve absolutely loved this thing and have never regretted not going with a SCV8 (I’ve seen way more SVR’s on the road than HST’s). My wife has been trying to convince me that I needed to grow up (our 2nd child was born a few months ago) and that it was time for a full-size RR. Her biggest issue is rear legroom on the RRS. But truth be told, I’ve never warmed up to the full-size RR looks or handling, and pretty sure a whole new design is coming 2021. I looked at many other SUV’s including the new G-class, Cayenne, X7...but I kept coming back to the RR. Reluctantly, I was about to pull the trigger on a canceled order SVO paint RR SC (because every other car in Los Angeles is a black or white RR!), when my wife decided to sit in the back of a ‘19 RRS in the showroom. She became immediately convinced that the ‘19 RRS had way more rear legroom than my ‘16. Ok, I played along and told her she was absolutely correct then nicely told my SA to keep his mouth shut. So with luck on my side I was about to happily extend the lease on my HST and order a 2020 RRS when the order guide opened up. Then, in classic Land Rover style, the HSE Dynamic was gone from the configurator and in comes a new HST with a new, more powerful and efficient engine. Can it get any better??

Unfortunately my dealer has little to no info yet on the HST. I’m dissapointed in the limited standard color selection coming up in the US configurator and Vintage interior is not an option. Also, at least in the US, you can’t seem to configure a car with 22” wheels without the $3500 exterior carbon package, that I don’t care for. Maybe on a Lambo Urus because you just kind of need to, but I just don’t get carbon bits on a 5,000lb SUV but I get it’s an aesthetics thing. Anyway, I checked the Canadian website and it seems to allow 22” wheels as standalone and the downloadable brochure on the US site does show the wheels as standalone, so I’m hoping the US configurator is wrong. Anyone have any info on this or know when you can start ordering MY20 cars in the US? TIA.

Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you but I am going on Thursday to look into trading out of my 2016 HST into the new 2019.5 HST, of which I know very little right now. I absolutely love my 2016 so won't trade out unless it's a truly amazing upgrade. I will keep you posted on what I find out about trims and the 22" wheels.

Nobody seems to know anything about this model. And I was under the impression you can’t order 2019.5 models anymore, you may only be able to change what’s already in the pipeline. In any case, for me getting a 2019.5 that’s only going to be in production for like 2-3 mos before 2020’s arrive makes no sense.

My friend is a broker with access to the Vista ordering system and he said he was able to spec 22” wheels on an HST w/out the carbon package so that’s good news for me!

Anyway let me know what you find out. I’m most excited about the new engine as the current V6 surges too much and not so smooth down low.

The lease numbers won’t be out on the HST until end of month early May. If residuals are too low and MF is high I may pass and just get a fullsize.

My dealer says that the HSTs are still being built and will be into 2020. I test drove it and it was great, but did not compare the SCV8, which I ended up pulling the trigger on. I am sad parting with my 16 HST, but this SC is a beast and so fun to drive. Went with Carpathian Gray and matching gray wheels.

What is the IT you test drove? A new HST?

Yes, 2019.5 HST. Was very similar to my 2016. Couldn't notice any up-tick in the speed or acceleration.
Oh I wasn’t aware they were already Stateside. Any thoughts on the interior...specifically the suede steering wheel? And congrats on the V8!

FYI, it is also going to have a I-6 not V-6 anymore.
Correct. The HST will be the first LR vehicle with the mild hybrid P400 engine. The full-size HSE will get this when MY2020 are released.
