That's weird. I would have guessed the last owner mistakenly (or not) gave you one from a different vehicle but if you bought one that's different. Can you take a pic of the unit and the slots where it is supposed to fit in? It's really just a drop in, the ends don't even spring back like some vehicles.
2013 retractable boot cover

I’ve just purchased a 2013 (old shape) Range Rover sport. The 2012 retractable boot cover is not long enough to sit in the housing.
I cannot understand it, I bought another thinking the we’re different and they are the same!
Can anybody offer any advice.

That is really strange. The only change that was made that I can remember is the sad elimination of the split tailgate in 2012 (or 2013) I have a 2011 that I could measure to compare. Although if that is the reason my 2011 would probably be the same length.That's weird.
