First of all, a Range Rover is not an investment. It is an expense. They are actually completely opposite of eachother. Secondly, no, Land Rover is not going to let you order a Range Rover without an audio system. That is just stupid.

I suggest you buy whatever you want, it is your money. If you are asking this forum what makes the most "sense", that answer will never be any Land Rover product for starters and sure as hell would never be a new one. T

Details of the 2011 are not yet available but I wouldn't expect much change given the major changes in 2010.

As for audio, the Range Rover uses a very complex electrical system. You are going to find it difficult to do much to the stock sound system. not that you really need to , it's excellent. The Luxury package is nice, also very expensive. I have had one with and one without. Unless cost is no object, I'd probably pass on it.

While it's true that you will save money buying a left over 2010, don't forget to consider the heavier depreciation of the older model year. It will offset your savings significantly.

hi combatninja ... sorry to offend you by my idiotic, nonsensical post. you are absolutely right, it is a HUGE expense, not an investment :crybaby2:

to clarify, i meant to say, could i sell the audio afterwards and replace it with something better. i've just heard a-okay comments about the systems in range rovers, and mine is no good, but i'm seeing from the posts that's it's just best to keep as is.

the broker here in houston said that the 2011 will get a body makeover (slight) but engine and interior remains the same. i haven't heard anything about new body for 2012.

Your question was not idiotic at all. Combat Ninja made good points but there is no need to apologize to anyone here.
I have found the stock system in my 06 to be plenty good for my needs. I've also seen custom jobs with big speakers in the back but unless you're looking to let everyone know that inside your expensive car is an expensive system, I'd probably just enjoy the quality stock system. Keep us posted in what you do!!

I do believe the 2012 Range Rover is going to be completely redesigned although I know little about it. This article is in Spanish, and several years old, but it has a pic FWIW...

Additionally, I have heard that 2012 is bringing another new "Range Rover" that is supposed to get much better mileage and share a platform with the Freelander, but be badged as a Range Rover. Huh?? And it's two doors. Huh?? Uh, okay. So it's not a REAL Range Rover, IMHO...

The MkIII is not really the type of car that comes with a cheap stereo that you rip it out and get a new one at Best Buy ;) It's integrated with the navigation and system control interface of the car. Go with the stock sound system and if you really want superlative sound order the premium sound package.
As for your ?broker, it's likely he knows less than most of us here about the '11 RR although his guess that there will be minor changes is correct.

There was a product timetable that included a new Range Rover for 2012 prior to the Tata sale and the economic collapse, but that was thrown in the trash some time ago. You are nowhere near enough to the next gen RR to worry about whether you should buy or wait.

The RR stereo is plenty good unless you listen at brain cell killing levers or want to impress the neighbors with your taste in rap. No car stereo is going to sound like vinyl played through Wavac.

It appears that LR is possibly de-contenting these vehicles for 2011. I have a '11 RR S/C coming 9/1 and I am having to pay $1800 for the vision assist package (VAP). Three of the 4 items: blind spot mirrors, adaptive headlights, and high beam assist are std included items on my '10 S/C. Only the surround cameras had to be purchased for the '10 S/C ($800). Additionally, after Sept.2010, the electronic rear diff will be charged option($500). Mine will be included no charge (Aug. build). You will have to find out from the dealer what changes have been made to the '11 HSE and HSE Lux cars, as the LR website is still building with 2010 specs.

In my opinion, I would go with a 2011, as the '10's were kind of rushed to market and the software, specifically, was not ready for prime time. I also think the depreciation of the '10 will outweigh any deductions you might get. There weren't enough '10's built to warrant any huge discounts. My dealer has had to jump through hoops all year just to get some inventory.

Good Luck!

Is there a build/order sheet out for the 2011 Range Rovers? Recently the new model year RR has been coming out Jun-July but I have heard nothing this year. Are you being told they are coming out in Sep this year? I have an '08 RR S/C coming off lease in Oct. and want to see what options are offered to put an order in for an 2011. thx.

I've been very happy with mine. I haven't been back to the dealer since I bought it 8 months ago if that tells you anything. The fuel mileage is horrible but in a 6000 lb 520 HP car, I have no real grounds for complaint. The TFT instrument panel display is somewhat crippled in that it won't display a lot of stuff that it is capable of displaying such as music information, GPS information, etc. I think that could be changed with future software updates. It did have a single loose bolt in the subwoofer that made the stereo sound like crap and as soon as I tightened it it sounded great. Of course it took me 6 months to figure that out. It's a problem with the early build 2010's as I've seen others here with the same issue. There is a recall on mine regarding the airbag software but I haven't bothered to take it in yet since it's not a noticeable problem from the driver perspective.

Yes, my dealer had build sheet info for their initial 2011 orders, although they weren't able to order very many vehicles. They were only allowed one full sized RR S/C on the initial order.

If I could just throw one piece of advice to the original poster, try and wait a couple of months from initial delivery if you go new. The main problems I've ever heard from most new LRs seemed to always be from the first batch to come out of a "new" year. Hopefully '11 will be the fix year, and w/o any significant upgrades, but....

Re: stereo. Get the upgraded sound system and have someone familiar w/ sound engineering "tune" your system. You don't need another system. Trust me. I used to be a musician/producer, and am very picky w/ sound. The only mods I believe in involve sound, and if this vehicle wasn't capable of playing my music to my specs, I'd rip it out and sacrifice the Nav and info. But it can, and it plays it well, and I have an '06, and I believe the '10s & on have even better systems. It's all in the tuning. Don't expect to just put in your music and it'll sound good.

Search here, I believe someone did a nice write up on getting the most of your sound, and if you are so inclined to blast music and scare your neighbors into thinking some gangster has moved in. It can handle it. Within reason of course, but it can def wake people up, with very clear (non-distorted) sound.

drdread ... that is great advice on waiting a tad bit AND going for the sound-upgrade and then getting someone to "tune" the system! i have made my mind and will get the 2011 ... thanks to all on this thread!!!

If you get a persistant rattling with any bass output from the sub, which sounds a lot like interior trip pieces rattling, tighten the both securing the subwoofer.
