Few quick questions...I'm thinking about buying a 2010-2012 Supercharged RR. From what I've read here, it looks like the superchargers tend to go and the timing chain guide rails have to be replaced.

1) Can anyone give me an idea of how much the supercharger is to repair and replace? Anyone here have it done?

2) Anyone have an idea on price for timing chain guides?

Carmax has a few, and for around 8k, they will sell me a 5 year 100k warranty. Would love any and all input on overall reliability for the 2010-12 Supercharged and non supercharged. Thanks!!!!

The plastic guide pins are in both n/a and supercharged 5.0 engines, they just tend to wear quicker in the supercharged. It's about a $3-5k job depending on where you go, but the shop needs to have purchased LR tools for the job, or designed their own. A very late model 2012 might have the upgraded timing chain guide pins from the factory, someone on the forums posted the exact TSB with VIN numbers of the affected RR's. $8k for the extended warranty sounds like A LOT.

All of CarMax's warranties are pretty outrageous, but the exclusions are none. You can bring in the truck into your local Land Rover dealer for "my air suspension is slightly lower in the mornings" or "the steering wheel memory is too slow", and the Land Rover will "diagnose" the issue, and since they want their money, replace whatever to fix the issue. And the check? That goes over to poor ol' CarMax.

Only exception I think are wear items.

Oddly, Maxcare (carmax's warranty program) has a ton of consumer complaints...and carchex has fewer. Odd because carchex is cheaper, but I'm pretty sure chain guides are an exclusion.

This guy on youtube did an awesome video about carmax covering his Rover. Not sure if the link will work, but look up Doug DeMuro and Range Rover. He paid about 5k for a warranty, but he's had over 10k in repairs. He had a 2006 HSE

I have the warranty through my credit union, it's based out of the CUNA warranty, I went with this one as its the only one that I saw that actually covered the timing chain tensioner. On the TSB it refers to the part as well as a tensioner which is great if I ever have to bring it in. I paid $3,000 for 3 yr 45,000 mile coverage.

TFW278, Same here! I purchased mine through my credit union. I could have had the Range Rover warranty for $5700 for 2 years/50k additional but instead went with CUNA I paid $3400 for 48 months/60k miles platinum coverage.

FujiRRSC, that's great! I'm jealous you were able to get the PLATINUM coverage, because of the miles on mine they could only go as far up as Gold. What's great is that its an "excluded plan" meaning only what is listed as excluded is excluded, everything else is INCLUDED. Things like speakers are covered also which is great! I like that they include the tensioners as covered, it's actually the only reason I bought the truck knowing it would be covered.

Completely agree! I even had the service advisor there who I will work with look it over and ask his experience with them. He said It was on par with the Range Rover warranty and that he had worked with them before on claims and they paid out. Plus how much cheaper it was than going through RR. Glad to know it covered the tensioner as I had no idea about that issue when I purchased. I was more concerned about the air suspension lol

Samuel, check in with Bigg's Automotive on Bell-Red. They are truly top notch guys and work on honesty, integrity and support. Before handing this over the questionable service folks at JLR Bellevue, I would drive to the Fife dealer. Of our three dealers up here Fife are the only ones that bend over backwards and really provide true customer service.
