TD;DR
Is there a particular thread with basic info/advice on what to do or look for when dealing with timing chain/tensioners repair? I know there are plenty of related threads, but I'm curious if there's one that consolidates general advice.
============================
I recently purchased a used 2012 RRS HSE LUX with 106,000 miles. I also purchased an extended warranty that covers timing chain repairs. The RRS began to sporadically show signs of tensioner failure (a little rattle one out of five starts, goes away after a few minutes, etc.). It is being disassembled tomorrow by the car shop to fully diagnose. Two questions:
1) Is there a particular list of things that should be looked at while they're doing this?
2) Should I take advantage of the disassembly, and have them check and/or replace other components, even if it meant me paying for them (e.g. water pump)?
I am a total ignoramus when it comes to auto repair, and whatever little I know about the RRS, it is thanks to this forum. I just want to have the right questions and suggestions when I talk to the shop tomorrow.
Thank you in advance for your help, and Merry Christmas!
