right guys im new to these engines so be gentle with me ha ha :thumb:
got a 96 2.5dse and on steep hills the temp rises right up to the red.. then kinda wobbles about abit.. then drops back to half?
also noticed this on motorway that temp was slowly creeping up..then after i put my foot down abit the temp dropped back to half again?
looks like a pretty new viscous fan on it thats kicking in when its supposed to but gets abit scary when red light flickered on for a split second today?
anyone got any suggestions?

Have you done anything which might have blocked airflow to the front end?

Maybe with expanding foam....

Hook up an OBD scanner to it, find out if it is actually over heating first should read (195 to 220F, for V8 models though, don't know about diesels). I think it is overheating from the symptoms you described, but just make sure it is not a short before you start spending. If it is really overheating, check airflow and make sure there are not any air pockets in the system as well as ensuring that flow of coolant is not restricted.
