as the title says my front diff has just eaten its self
clonk bang and a few teeth in the diff oil.

need the car for work
would it be worth while too turn into two wheel drive
until I can locate one ???

or is that not an option

as there is no difflock I think your viscous diff in the transfercase won't like it when driven without front drive shaft.

a front diff from any p38 would fit yours

got one, but not in your region (Netherlands)

Tried asking George at GEMM 4x4 in Larbert? Also, it's worth checking your viscous coupling to make sure it hasn't seized.

ive ordered one from ebay company called blackcounty 4x4 was cheap at £60 should come on Monday

when we drained the diff it was full of shrapnel .. im sitting here looking for cheap car hire for a few days happy days

Whatever you do, don't drive it until you've made sure that the viscous coupling isn't seized because that's a really good reason for it to fail.

Or, if the viscous coupling has seized, remove the front propshaft so it only drives the rear wheels as a temporary measure to get you back on the road. Running with only one prop will cause the VC to seize but if it is already.......

new second diff now in place ...but the steering feels notchie in full lock
sounds like the viscous coupling ...do you think... asked the garage about this at the time
was told it could have been a shim that failed in the diff ... im losing confidence in this car by the day
need it to run for a while , so I can save up for more repairs

If you pull away on loose ground on full lock and you can feel the wheels slipping on the surface, the Viscous coupling is seized. That is almost certainly what caused the first diff to fail. You have cured a symptom and not the root cause of the problem. If the diff was fitted by a garage and they didn't check the VC, I'd be losing faith in the garage not the car.

If you jack up a front wheel and stick it in neutral you should be able to *slowly* turn the front wheel.

seen that on a search... will try in the morning . was going to fit a new radio ..so can do both at the same time.
