So what would made you think a 1988 manual gear box designed for a diesel engine at around 90 HP would support a V8 petrol producing around 260 HP. Your throw out bearing is most likely failing and the pressure plate was never designed for that kind of torque and stress.

I recently swapped the old diesel engine with a lexus v8 1uz-fe paired with the original diesel gearbox.
