When I put the key in the ignition it will only turn about 1/4".. The steering wheel unlocks but continues to lock/unlock itself over and over (about 2-4 times), then the key will not turn any further. Its as if the key is "stuck" in that position.

We tried to jump start it but no luck.. Then we tried to reset the battery, still no luck.. The key just won't turn all the way..

Now the shop ordered a new ignition switch (the electrical part) and they will replace it tomorrow. They said that if that doesn't fix the problem they will order new "tumblers" etc. But that will take 2-3 weeks to come in..

My fear is that they have no clue how to fix this and they will not only waste money but they will waste 3 weeks of time as well..

Please help. Is there any way to get this key to turn?!

Did you try to disconnect battery and reconnect it after a few minutes. Same thing happened to me and solved the problem by doing the battery thing. You may want to check the battery to see if it has enough charge. My feeling is that before you start changing parts get a diagnosis.

thanks for the advice. i will try that first thing tomorrow morning. i brought it to the mechanic but they just spend 2.5 hours (at $99 and hour..) diagnosing it and they still have no clue.

I saw a post where that worked for a gentleman but the key only worked "once" each time the battery was reset. If that happens what do I do?

Does anyone think this is a steering issue? I can hear the wheel unlocking over and over again. Very strange.

make sure that the battery in the key is not depleted. Better change the battery and try again. The programming of the battery is coverd in this forum. I had no problem after resetting the main battery. My problem was the battery in the car had been weak and I had to replace that. Leat us know if it worked. Curious.
