When I drive the Range Rover from cold the revs climb then flutter by about 500 rpm. When the engine is warm it’s all fine. I think it’s to do with a temp sensor but don’t know where to start. Anyone here know anything that might help? Thanks

Hey all, First post here. I've been reading through related threads (and learning) about the issue I have with my recently purchased P38 Range Rover (GEMS). Backstory:: Bought it last week, it started first crank every try, ran good, idled for about 10 mins with no overheating. Test drove...

Having recently purchased another fine example of Land Rover engineering I find myself on a forum…. Sound familiar…. My most recent buy is a P38 Range Rover with a non egr BMW Diesel engine. I bought it from a very good friend who didn’t have the time or inclination to sort a few issues out...

Hi all, I have just joined the P38 fraternity with my very recent purchase of a 1998 diesel variant... As per usual there are a few issues that need sorting and indeed may well be connected. I bought it from a trusted friend who has told me it has had a new engine approx 30K miles ago and he...

All I’ve already read all the threads with respect to the dreaded P38 door latch bugs. I am getting the LH Drivers door ajar message. So I removed the door card and was able to get the latch loose but just can’t get the two rods off the assembly. Tried for about an hour before quitting...

The 98 Range Rover is back on the road. I did not use the Blue Devil Head Gasket after all. I returned it to the store and got my money back the same week. I waited until I could find a more conclusive coolant leak. I replaced the orginal thermostat a few years back when the Rover overheated...

Hi I wanted to jump start my 1998 P38 4.6, as I touched the + wire it sparked, I had the cables wrong by mistake - no I am NOT colour blind, just a very stupid mistake. The car won't start, just turns over, I was told I blew the ECU Removed it and sent it to an electronics company in Cape Town...

Hi All, Very new to the RR community and most likely going to have some naive questions to ask. So I purchased a 1998 P38 this Sunday just gone and these are the issues I've noted so far: RH-F Window Regulator Gone - banging at the top and not fully closing (Just need to buy a replacement as...

Hey all, I'm back with a project P38 I bought at an auction. I previously owned a 2000 RR and loved it. Now I have a 1998 white RR with 156k miles. Please don't lecture me about buying a RR with an unknown history. I'm a risk-taker - LOL. I've just been able to get her started and the engine...

I finally got my BeCM back from Martin and have my 98 4.0 SE running again. Many thanks to him. In the mean time I decided to order a remote fob as people have said this is really the only way you should be locking your vehicle (and it would have avoided my immobilization problem caused by my...

Hi guys, I've been trying to sort out the vague steering and "crashy" ride on my 1998 P38. I have replaced the anti roll bar bushes and drop links plus the front panhard rod bushes so far. The old ARB bushes were yellow polybushes so I think they were Britpart ones. I seem to have cured 90% of...

Hi guys, I have a slow coolant leak - about 0.5 litres every few days. I have a 1998 RHD P38 2.5 litre DIESEL (BMW engine). Last year I replaced the waterpump, thermostat and all coolant hoses as a precaution. The radiator looks fine. I took the plastic undertray off today - the small one...

I never took the time to post about her when I had her, but as I am about to acquire another P38 I thought this would be a good time to share my experience restoring my last P38. I hope that this is useful to anyone that is considering picking up a old truck that has been left to die. The...

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I live in Norway, but can't find a Norwegian RR forum. I'm looking at a 1998 2.5L diesel with automatic and 372.000km on it. As a BMW mechanic om not worried about the km, but the owner says that after he changed the oil and filter in the AT the car starts slowly? Not...

Hi guys, woke up to an EAS fault this morning - I swear I will set fire to this car if I get another problem with it! The suspension was left last night in normal ride height and has been working fine. This morning its in access mode and won't budge. I can hear the compressor and feel it...

Hi, I just bought my car a few months ago so I am new to all this. Its a '98 Range Rover 4.6 HSE. I have already replaced the EAS and the fuel regulator. Now the heat doesn't work. That is problem one. I know virtually nothing, so all help is appreciated. There is no 'book' indicator on the...

Hi guys- So my climate control dial is not doing a thing .On full blast-Heat works though, wierd thing is when I turn the dial I no longer have the fan speed display at the very top of the screen. And of course now I have the book and exclamation point. Any ideas? I just find it odd the fan speed...

I'm sure this has been asked before and if so, I apologise for bringing it up again. When driving my P38 Diesel Auto, you seem to have to put in a lot of pedal movement to get it going. The auto box changes smoothly and it cruises nicely on the motorway without crazy gear changes going up hill...

it isn't clear from the archives so i ask. the 2 upstream o2 sensors provide data to ensure proper fuel ratio and are important in proper performance and mileage. the downstream 02 sensors measure particulates and provide emissions data for epa compliance but have no function in setting fuel...
