As I said, to superlock you need to lock twice either with the fob or the key so you can simply lock, by just turning the key once. However, the key locking mechanism was designed for emergency use if the fob batteries died and was never intended to be used all the time. So using that all the...
  2. Will a UK market BeCM/ECU/cluster work on a US truck?

Range Rover Mark II / P38
If you were to swap the locks and fobs, then yes, you would need the matching receiver too. My day job is with the UK equivalent to the FCC and the boggest problem we have is equipment from the US. As RF doesn't know where country boundaries are, radio spectrum use in the UK has to be...
  3. Where/how have people tied down rovers to flat deck trailer

Range Rover Mark II / P38
I regularly tow all sorts of different cars on a trailer and have a set of tyre straps. But, as you don't have these, then tying down each end of each axle would do the same job. Ratchet them down until you can see the tyres start to squash and it won't be going anywhere.

There was nothing wrong with the GEMS system except it could only be made to be OBD compliant which became mandatory in the US in 1996. In 2000 OBD2 compliance became mandatory in Europe and the GEMS unit would have needed a complete redesign to allow it to meet that spec, so it was far easier...
  5. Will a UK market BeCM/ECU/cluster work on a US truck?

Range Rover Mark II / P38
UK never had SAI or the post cat lambda sensors, both only on NAS versions. US and rest of world (except perhaps Japan) use a different radio frequency for the keyfob (315 MHz inthe US, 433 MHz everywhere else) but all you need do there is retain the US alarm receiver. The other differnce is...
  6. Replaced BeCM

Range Rover Mark II / P38
BeCM reporting 2005, usually accompanied by telling you the Language is set to French and it has a manual gearbox, happens when dianostics don't get a good connection. The fact it is reporting 10V too would seem to confirm this. Connections to the diagnostic socket go through the large white...
  7. BeCM water proof

So why are you blaming the BeCM when you are now saying that the Motronic is poorly designed and fails often? So why not try it? The Motronic is made by Bosch and supplied to numerous European manufacturers, the only difference being the programming. So if it is possible to remove the security...

and why do you feel the need to swap ECUs? For GEMS there is a standalone option but not for Bosch, probably because every other car that uses the Bosch Motronic ECU also has similar security features. Difference is, owners of BMW, Saab and others using a virtually identical system don't feel...

Already being discussed elsewhere. If he was a bit more honest about the previous damage he might be able to justify the ridiculous price. . From the Damage history report, seems it had a reportable prang in 2006........ From the supplied history: "State or municipal has reported an accident...

There's numerous other forums worldwide that all used to carry links to the old info on here. Now they are just filling up with people that have given up on here. It's lost it's main advantage over any other forum so why not go elsewhere?

If you have found a way of accessing the archived information, you're doing better than the site owners who claim it is being worked on (but they've been saying that for weeks and reckon it isn't available). So if there is a way, spill it. As for the OP's original question, you still haven't...

Any updates on getting the search facility to work properly? It still isn't possible to search a specific forum, so a search for one of the number of threads on fitting an aftermarket sat nav screen into a P38 gives hundreds of results for later cars that already have one, not how to fit one to...

and the verdict is....... That engine isn't going to run again without serious attention. Spinning it on the starter it sounded like it had no plugs in it except for a couple of pots. The two that did have a bit of compression actually tried to fire, just. Checking compression on the two...

Water in the back of the OBD connector causes corrosion so no connection. Clean the idle air valve as it has two functions. It controls the idle speed and it also opens to raise the revs on very small throttle openings.

A complete rewire of the car. The BeCM controls everything body related, starting, charging, lights, wipers, instruments, locking, windows, and in conjunction with other controllers, ABS, heating, gearbox, transfer case, etc. Or just go out and buy a Series 1 Discovery.....
  18. My '98 died on the highway...USA. GEMS

Range Rover Mark II / P38
Something hit it. If that's the one you took out, that's why it stopped. If replacing it hasn't got it running again, the new one will look the same by now. Either something has worked loose and damaged the reluctor ring or the ring has come loose. You need to very carefully examine the ring...

The other thing to bear in mind that if you are in Europe and order stuff from the UK, there's 20% tax to pay (VAT) on top of the price. If you are outside Europe, then you don't have to pay that and it also seems that US Customs are helping you too. I've sent a couple of things to the US from...

Range Rover Mark II / P38
When it does it, dump a load of cold water on the CPS to cool it down and see if that cures it. When on their last legs they will always play up when hot. Idle Air Valve (no idea where the C came from), the cylindical one bolted to the front of the throttle body. Two small screws, pull it...
