    winter/ sumer tires

is it ok to keep winter tires on during the summer?
does it have to do with the soft composit of a winter tire that if you keep them on during the summer they will be that much softer and possibly blow out that much easier due to the heat?

    thank you

just as summer tires are not suited for winter, winter tires are not suited for summer. you will get alot longer breaking distances, your abrasion will increase enormously and you just won't have the grip you get from good summer tires

    IMO...

The bottom line issue is you will wear out the winter tires so drastically in summer driving that they will be like all seasons the ensuing winter & probably like contis the following winter.

I disagree necessarily with performance related issues as the pirelli scorpion... & other equivalent high performance winters, have excellent road performance, each with excellent speed & weight ratings, so they perform almost as well as even summer tires, they will just be eaten up in the heat.

Yes the traditional truck winter tires suck in anything but winter driving, but the ones designed for this type of SPORT utility are less prone to have the traditional winter tire issues.

Summer/winter tires are more determined by what the temperature will be. Summer tires should not be run when outside temps hit 40-45 and below (very short periods are OK)

They are softer, and can overheat and blow out. Depends where you live - Texas in July, and people drive at higher speeds for longer mileage in 100 degree+ heat which could be a problem, but not much in a cooler region of the country.

Another issue is that winter tires use a different rubber compound. You'll eat up most of the tread in a summer. Due to tread design they also tend to be noisier and depending on the aggressiveness of the pattern it can guzzle more gas.
