Latch on upper Stowage Box - is it replaceable?

Hey guys with the detailed Topix design access...

Is it possible to replace just the latch on the upper Stowage glove box rather than replacing the entire door itself?

Mine broke on the left hand side yesterday, it seems that the plastic gave way finally and I'm just checking first if that latch on the 06 RRS can be replaced or if I should buy the whole door (about $150).

    Thanks!

Is just the latch available to buy? Typically if a single part can be bought then it can be replaced by itself.

Yup...I"m still searching for the answer on that...have a call into the LR parts dept. and awaiting a reply, but I didn't see anything on Ebay at the moment for just the latch yet. Still looking!

Does it come in anodized blue?

P.S. I have nothing constructive to add, just felt like contributing to the thread.

Space isn't remote at all. It's only an hour's drive away if your car could go straight upwards.

Good call...but for the interior, it would have to be Zebrano Wood to match the rest of the interior!

Just got confirmation that it does NOT come separately...so will try to use some Gorilla Glue to re-attach the plastic, and failing that, will have to buy a new one for $150. Despite this breakage, I'm actually quite happy, as this is the first mechanical part to actually "fail" after almost 8 years on the interior. I better fix it and sell it fast!

Paul, is the part you are looking for listed here? I see a striker and a clip... Not sure if either ones would fix your issue for less than a new $150+ door.

Paul, if you do end up fixing it with glue I'd use a two part epoxy and not Gorilla glue.

Re: Latch on upper Stowage Box - is it replaceable?

Thanks Umberto, in that box 8 there is a small indentation on top of the door where the latch is, unfortunately it doesn't look like a separate part here. I checked Ebay, they have one new in Alpaca for $150, the dealer club price is $153...so pretty close.

Good advice Mike...will try that first.

Hey...we can start a bumper and glove box repair business soon!

On the epoxy a good rule of thumb is the longer the set the stronger the bond --5 min versions being the weakest bond. You have to balance out how long you need to hold the piece in place to set. In your case if you can fix it in there and go with the longer cure it's best.

My favorites are the Hardman bubble packs if you can find them...

Or you can ship it to me in PAand I can do a staple melt and plastic weld on it. Epoxy is going to be a crap shoot on a latch.

    Tough to beat that offer!

PJPR01, doesn't HP own a stake in Stratasys? You could get them to 3D print a new piece.

That's a lot of effort just to fix a glovebox latch! But it's good to know that I've got a backup plan here and can outsource it to B. man in case I can't fix it! Appreciate the offers guys!
