    Not orings or crack by the screw, new heater core leak

    Just wanted to share this pic of an aftermarket heater core 2 ys old. I replaced it with a oem valeo from a low milage Range Rover.
    The Valeo model was much heavier and solid than the aftermarket. You can see that the aftermarket developed cracks
    around the orings, mabey from bumping the pipes from inside the engine bay. Anyways thought it would last much longer.
    Had to do the bend the frame down trick to swap. Also what the heck is that plastic in there?

    1997 Range Rover 4.6 HSE
    1985 Chevy Corvette 5.7 TPI
    Nano Evolution II(fixes=paid for itself)
    4x SrS reset with nano
    P0183 changed fuel temp sensor OK
    P1179 cleaned maf with maf cleaner OK
    P1314 reset CEL OK (was going thru large puddles when CEL went on).
    Service Engine reset/Adaptive values reset

    That plastic are pieces in each tube of the heater core. After I replaced my heater core I cut the bad one in half just to have a look inside. I don't know what function they provide. I guess they help with the flow.

    If they are in each tube it could be to induce turbulence and improve heat transfer. This commonly done in various ways in industrial applications. A way to get more performance.

    They could also be to balance flow between each tube so the core works efficiently and uniformly.

    Or they could just be left over from manufacture 🙈
