"Lift"/ Tires/ and wheels opinions wanted

Just Read through the 9 pages of the "official tire thread".... got some great feed back on where i want to go brand wise with tires... BUT here is my real question, Actually, i will just pose a hypothetical scenario regarding fitment and styling. Looking for opinions and ideas and "thats not gonna work" type of info.

Im looking for a bit more "filled out" kind of burly stance in my 98 HSE. My thoughts are to purchase the 16x7 black steelies from AB, Choose a tire that will be in the 31-33 inch range, Do any cutting needed AND/OR fit in 1 inch spacers and adjust the height sensors, to make room for the 32 or 33 inch tires. Im not looking for a true "lift " but just enough to get me into a 32 or 33 inch tire with full articulation. My truck is trashed from wheeling in the brush/trees of the back roads in Washington, far beyond paint buffing, so i think its time to ditch the big 18"s and go with a more rugged wheel. I plan on making the spacers ( buddy works at a machine shop)

Heres where im at for tires: ( these should all fit the 7" rim)

    265/75/16 in either:
Dunlop Rover MT Maxx traction 31.7" @ 149 a tire on tirerack ( very knobby)
    NItto Terra Grappler 31.54 " @ $120 onlinetires.com ( you all know it )
General Grabber AT2 31.9" @ @138 tirerack.com ( you all know this one too, kinda "tamer" looking )

Dunlop Radial Rover RT in a 235/85/16 31.8" tall @ $145 Tirerack. ( taller / skinnier tire, nice knobby tread)
    http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/du ... _ci2_l.jpg

Side note, id like a tire that kind of "bulges" on the rim, but im no pro at understanding fitment and sizing. Im also willing to look at wheels spacers as an option to stick the wheels further out. Basically im just looking to achieve a unique, 4x look, without going crazy..... yet. I would love any tire suggestions as well.

    Anyone with photos of a p38 on 265/75/16's ?

Re: "Lift"/ Tires/ and wheels opinions wanted

See if you can score some 16" wheels from a disco or other RR. I bought a set a few months back on a whim off craigslist for $160 with brand new tires on em. A couple years back I bought a set on eBay for $100 with nearly new tires on em. Not that you'll use the 255/65/16's, but you can always turn around and sell them for what you bought the wheels for.

As for tires, I think the 265/75/16's would look beefy. (good) I just think the 235's would look like pizza cutters.

You should also look at 255/85/16 (33.3) tires, with spacers and recalibration thats probably the tallest tire you can fit. 235/85 is a really skinny tire, I was looking at those before I got my 245/75/16 BFG MTs. If I had to do it all over I would probably go with the 265/75's. IIRC the black steelies from AB are not the correct offset, so they will stick out. Someone on this board had them awhile back and wasnt happy with the fitment. Is there any specific reason you want a 7" wheel? I did the same thing as kmagnuss and bought a spare set of 16s for cheap, you probably wouldnt be able to mount the 235/85 on a 16x8, but from what youve said the skinny "pizza slicer" tire isnt what youre looking for so i would cross it off your list anyway.

Kmagnuss- Yes im in the Lookout for disco wheels ect... I just happen to love the gnarly look of the Black steelies, but a stock 16" would suit me fine. I guess i did not realize that the stock 16" was 16x8... Because, to answer the question, i dont "want" 7 inch wide wheels, but assumed that both the stock 16 and the steelie were 7". This opens up many more tire choices now. Specifically in the Dunlop

    Dunlop Rover MT Maxx:

Size........ Heighth/ Width/ rim size tolerance

    285/75/16 32.8 " 11.3 7.5-9"
    265/75/16 31.7" 10.5 7- 8"
    245/75/16 30.5" 9.5 6.5-8
    305/70/16 32.8 12.2 8-9.5

    Radial mud rover
    235/85/16 31.7 9.3 6-7
    305/70/16 32.9 12.5 8-9.5
    245/75/16 30.6 9.5 6.5-7.5
    285/75/16 32.7 11.3 7.5-9

Max, what tires are in your photos, respectively ? ( i assume the first are the BFG m/t's

265.75x16 only needs arnott springs and recallibration, well that is what I have.
255.85x16 is more involved than just recallibrated heights.

265.70x16 will fit standard suspension and fill the arches nicely.

There should be captions for each of the pics. First is 245/75/16 on stock EAS, 2nd is 265/75/16 on 5" Rovertym springs, last is 255/85/16 on lifted EAS

Re: "Lift"/ Tires/ and wheels opinions wanted

Si ive been searching around, and gound some good steals on 16x8 disco wheels ect. Theres a guy up by me selling a set with never mounted Goodyear ATs.... ( a tire i know nothing about and havent seen a photo yet... tire rack has "wrangler at) The tires are " 265/70 r16 good year all terrain tire" Says his email.. Any Feedback on these tires? He wants 700 for the rims and new tires.

As for the spacers, my imagination leads me to believe that i should be able to mill out "flat donuts" the same diameter as the bottom or top of the plastic fitting on the air bag, drill a 1.5" hole in the middle for the airbag nub/ cotter pin to slide into, a long hole to slide a new cotter pin into, then weld a similar style nub on the bottom for the original cotter pin to hold the spacer to the frame.

VERY crude example of my idea: ( is this crazy talk?)

Just found a set of Disco wheels for $100 bucks. The guys measured them and say that they measure 8" on the outside and 7" on the inside......... Is this a 16X7 or 16X8... IMO the only advantage to going with stock rims was the wider wheel, and i will just paint them black. ( and loose the cooler looking offset) BUT if the disco wheels are truly 7" wide, then i see no advantage.

Has to be a DiscoII wheel, not a DiscoI. Different bolt pattern.

So, ive kind been freaking out on 16x7 vs 16x8 wheels.... Should i really be this obsessed? I like the 255/85/16, but im worried it wont fit on the skinnier 7" wheel. Any ideas guys?

It'll fit just fine. We used to run 12.5" wide tires all day long on 8" rims. I've seen em on 7" too. Dont' worry about it. If you need them, spacers are cheap.
