DD audio has just released a 6.5 sub. Dual 4 ohm voice coils.

Having just purchased a used sub enclosure sans speakers to replace the missing sub setup in my '02, I am subscribing.

FYI my dual subs were toast. I upgraded my front and rear speakers and had the 4 door 6.5 woofers left over. I broke off the metal tabs, drilled new holes in the edges. Pulled off the foam rings and installed them in the box. Sounds good so far. And when those die I'll use the other two. Then when those die I'll buy the JL ones. Budget rover work.....ha!

I just replaced my subs with two "Pyramid WX65X 6-1/2" White Poly Woofer Part # 290-270". $10.83 each at PartsExpress.com.

Easiest way I found is to remove the entire sub box, then unbolt it in half. The short wire harness from the sub amp makes connecting tough otherwise. They sound excellent!

Nice! I've heard good things about those speakers from the Jeep guys
Lots of them in use in outdoor..Jeepin conditions. Durable and cheap

Thanks to this post I have restored great sound to my otherwise stock Alpine H/K hi line system. I kept replacing my woofers but they were all similarly old and didn't last long. I don't blast music. I purchased these speakers (I think they were about $24 for the pair) and was pleased to find they fit perfectly in the stock enclosure. Even the screw holes lined up. I split the enclosure, detached the woofer amp from the stock speakers and simply installed the new speakers. I need to find a more permanent way of hanging the woofer amp from the speakers but after putting the woofer enclosure back together I fired it up and it sounds great. The whole job took me about half an hour. The DSP amp seems happy and these speakers should last longer than the car. The wires from the woofer amp are too short to mount the amp to the bottom of the enclosure and I'm too lazy to solder extensions. I'm thinking some serious two sided tape or contact cement to hang the amp under the speaker like it was originally. So far very happy. I'm not sure if woofer wires are "phased" and no terminals are marked so hoping I did it right.

You can just take an AA battery and connect wires to the speaker briefly, the cone will either move forwards or backwards and you can phase your subs together. I speak under correction but I think if the cone moves forwards then the polarity is correct.
