Rear hatch will not open, no power to lock

I have a 97 4.6. Rear hatch does not open, There is no power at actuator . At the same time when I lock the door with key fob the front passenger door does not lock. I have it from a good source that the power to the hatch runs through the front passenger door actuator. Does anyone have experience with this problem? Thanks in advance.

    The good source is right.

For awhile, my passenger central was bad, so I had to lock/unlock the door manually. When locked, the rear did not work. When unlocked, it did. Fixing the passenger's central fixed the whole thing. Good fun of the classical Land Rover kind.

    As above.
Should work if you can get the passenger doorlock in the unlocked position.
Lock isn't difficult to change, just a bit awkward if your R handed.
The most difficult part is not tearing the foam doorliner.

Mine does this when the dog locks just the passenger door after the key is out of the ignition. Try starting the car and then pull the drivers door lock up and down a couple of times, then lock and unlock with the key fob buttons with it still in the ignition. Go for a drive, then get out and see if the locks work right.

Door will super lock and unlock with FOB, just doesn't lock on first push but hatch is dead whether doors locked or not. I will try locking by hand just on the chance I can get it to work until I can change it. Does anybody have any tips on taking door panel off, don't want to break anything. Thanks for the replies and will post anything I find out that will help others.

Removing a door panel is simple.
Remove 2 screws under/ through the grab handle. Hidden by plastic caps.
Remove the screw behind the inside door latch. Hold th latch in the open position.
Remove the plastic surround with a bit of fiddling twisting and turning.
Pull/ prise off the speaker cover in the corner.
    Remove hex head screw.
Using something that won't damage the paint (I use a plastic wedge) get it
between the door and doorcard and strat prizing it away. It is now only held on
by plastic studs. Go all the way around untill it is loose. When pulling off beware
of any eventual speaker wires that need disconnecting.

It is possibly a good idea to have som new plastic studs ready for refitting as some
invariably get bent/ broken/ or otherwise become no longer reuseable. Don't know the
part no. off hand though, sorry.

Fitting is just as simple but in reverse order.

Re: Rear hatch will not open, no power to lock

Update on rear hatch lock, A relay or something looking like one came loose inside passenger front door and got in the way of window gearing, when window was lowered it cut the wire that feeds power to rear hatch button, spliced it back together and all is well. Hope this may help somebody.

Re: Rear hatch will not open, no power to lock

BeCM isn't involved in the rear hatch at all, power comes from F15 (20A), to the motor in the lower tailgate, from there goes to the pushbutton and the other side of the pushbutton is grounded via the front right door latch. If the front right door is unlocked, ground is sent to the pushbutton, if it is locked, then it isn't. Both wires go through a connector behind the trim in the right side of the boot, the power will be on the Purple wire while the ground return from teh door latch will be on the Green/Red wire.

Had the same thing recently, sounds odd but hold down the actuator rear hatch button while you thump below it on the tailgate with your fist.

Having to give it a thump is usually a sign that the spring has rusted. The bits of rust stop the button from being pushed in far enough to operate the microswitches inside. Repeatedly poking the button also works and once you get the tailgate open you can take the pushbutton out, take it apart and clear out the rust.

You've got the rusty spring problem then. Very, very simple to fix.
