    Steady clicking/ticking noise from engine

    All,

I have a 2008 RR HSE with 110K miles. In the past two months, the engine has started to make a constant clicking/ticking noise at all times, mostly heard at idle. I've heard other cars in general make this noise, and perhaps mine has in the past, but not this steady and loud. I could take a video. Any thoughts? I'm assuming that the engine is just getting old and a riser or whatever you call it is stuck?

Interested in your thoughts. I'm nearing the end with the car and just want it to last another two years before I sell it.

    Thanks.

Maybe a small leak in the exhaust gasket?!?

See the attached video for sound. You can really hear the clicking distinctly. Let me know what you guys think. Scroll up for description. Thanks.

Listening to it in crappy speakers. I’m sticking to the exhaust leak theory from one cylinder.
At least it’s not knocking. That would really be bad.
Have you tried the mechanic’s stethoscope yet?

No, I haven't taken it in yet as they charge some $200 to look at it. Although I could do it at the dealer probably for free with an oil change. The issue is that I'm about done with the truck and rarely use it. It was great for 11 years but now I've put in some $8,000 in work in one year alone (suspension, radiator, levelers, sway bars, water pump, etc.). So at this point I'd rather just live with it if it is a big fix related to the engine. That's why I was hoping maybe someone had an idea before I took it further. For example, if they have to go into the cylinders, isn't that major labor involved?

an exhaust leak would not be a major repair - probably just an exhaust manifold gadget.
