2006 Audio Upgrade - there must be a solution by now?

As much as I love the quality of my HK sound system the function It offers is just too poor for me and it just has to go. I don't even have an AUX socket to plug my iPod into.
There are loads of posts on various forums of what can't be done with the L322 post '06 but I'm still trying to find a decent solution which CAN be done.

Surely somebody had done an upgrade of some type. Where can I find details? (even if it means ripping the whole system apart ad binning amps just to give some functionality).
I would even be happy to get hold of a newer LR header unit with a few more features, but while some members mention it being done, nobody actually says what units they have upgraded from/to.
All I can tell about my header unit is that it only has TV (analogue and useless), CD (which I doubt will even be MP3 compatible) and Radio (analogue FM only). There is no AUX option.

I have a Dynavin N6-E39 which I kept from my old '02 plate L322. It's a shame that the N6 MOST adaptor doesn't integrate with the LR - that would be the perfect solution.

I know it's a question which has been asked a thousand times but PLEASE point me in the right direction. I've searched forum posts for days and still am none the wiser.

Quite frankly you are SOL in many ways due to being a 2006. 2006 is the unwanted step child and is one year production for much of the ICE. There are two detailed posts that I remember for using the 2007 aux input kit for iPods but you do not gain all the functionality. There are countless threads for modulators and inline inputs using the CD input. Your options are indeed limited but are heavily covered. Newer RR head units do not work as they use different communication paths and different tech. Many folks have tried but I don;t recall anyone every succeeding. Your other option is to gut the system and go full custom through an audio shop. It is really the only way you are going to gain the latest tech and decent nav.

I'm moving the factory head unit to the glove box and then installing a new Pioneer 8201NEX with speakers, and amps. It's not going to be easy but the only way I can see to upgrade this vehicle.

If you want, you can use a Mobridge digital pre-amp to replace the logic7 amp, and run your own amplifiers.

I have one and was using it for a while, but went back to the stock logic7 amp.

Mobridge also has an iPod/USB/Bluetooth interface that connects to the MOST bus as well which would add all the features your looking.

    Spot on.

I just fitted the latest ACM kit to my 06 and it works but is super hard to find room for install, it's not an easy job per se even with all the previous threads. Going to try the Mercedes firmware flash the jaguar folks use and see if it ads the extra functionality.

This week I'm doing Nav-tv VIM and a Navtool GVIF to add more features to mine. I'll do an updated walk-through when I get time. The navtool has a chromecast on it for wireless phone mirroring. That being said, do not buy a navtool, use nav-tv or naviks GVIF instead. Trust me.

OP frankly you have 2 basic options to improve sound:

    1. The sources are fine, but it's bass heavy, fader and tone controls can do a lot here.

    2. You can always upgrade the speakers themselves using the default amp. You'll need some custom made speaker mounts but a little wood and a router go a long way. Passive caps for fine tuning and it can sound really good.

    Hi Maximus
You got me thinking now. Where do you plan to move the header to I guess it will be behind the glovebox?

Can the original head unit be made to switch on auto with ignition, always selected to CD?
If so then could the replacement header (which in my case is a Dynavin) have its RCA output spliced into the factory CD feed? That way I wouldn't need any extra amps or cabling, and would retain use of the full HK system?

The Logic7 system uses the MOST bus. No RCA inputs. You'd need an AUX kit or a Mobridge product to convert the analog signal to digital.

I've been thinking of an AUX kit just to keep me going until I find a decent solution, but I'm not even sure that's an option - I only have CD/TV/Radio options on the header.
How much faff is involved in going down the Mobridge route?

Look into the mobridge stuff. Should be easy to add their multimedia module, although I haven't used it.

You can install it in the back by the amp, it loops in to the MOST bus with an optical cable.

I forget how it activates but it may just take over the MOST bus when you stream music to it, or it may cut out the CD changer.

Exactly what I'm going to do in the morning.
If it 'does what it says on the tin' then I'm surprised forum members haven't been chatting about it.

I always bring up the Mobridge stuff. Like I said, I have the preamp to remove the logic7 amp, worked great. But haven't gotten around to getting the multimedia module yet.

Why would you want to replace the amp?

Because they like to fail or half fail and after market components don;t play well with them.

Did you have to rewire all the speakers? Other threads seem to suggest that changing the amp means loosing speakers from the HK and a whole lot of wiring.
