If this recall is for real, it must be going to cost JLR a bundle. I'm guessing that replacement components and at least half-a-days labour would conservatively cost in excess of $1k (??? - any ideas). Considering a total production of around 115,000 vehicles from 2002-2005, that's at least $150 million.

I beleave that it's over 35k units in the USA, and somthing like 6 hours to do the change out. But thats not what the time charge was to replace all of the same componets when doing the old diff/driveline.

I guess its a combination of Land Rover not wanting any lawsuits due to the diff failure at speed, which it would probably lose due to the well known issues. Also I suspect, in the UK anyway L/R are looking to future sales, they need all they can get as the government seem set on forcing the public onto push bikes or hybrid electric cars!! buts thats another gripe of mine!

I heard from my LR dealer (Portland OR) that you have to register your VIN with LandRover USA and they believe they will start mailing out notices for this June 30th.

"LRNA plans to conduct a proactive Service Action to modify the front differential and drive shaft on 2003-2005 model year Range Rovers. According to the current plan, after June 30th they will start mailing the notifications to customers. It should take about a day to complete the work. After you received the notification, please call us for an appointment"

I wonder how people like me that bought replacement GKN (& Scoot C) propshafts will fair? Its no longer an original part, but I still worry about my front diff failing as the preload can never be confirmed.

re: ** INFO** First Gen L322 Front Differential Issues/Recal

Had A call Friday from my LR dealer asking when I want to bring in my 2003 for the replacement parts Plus a new RR courtesy car for the day

It was implied before on here that the recall would start with the newer cars first, so I was surprised by the call out of the blue. This may have something to do with the fact that I discussed the future diff problems and internet gossip with the service advisor on my previous visit for the new radiator. They may be flagging customers who are "clued up" first

Another possibility is rivalry between dealers for this recall work. There are 2 dealers within 10 miles of me, one is always busy but not so good, hard to get an appointment even. The other is not so busy but great service (so far!) seems that they are on the ball with a swift phone call

Gazguzzler, I am keeping my Scott Collison modified propshaft as its proved itself over the past 25000 miles to be no problem. However I will get the LR modification carried out on my wife's one.

SGW, I kind of agree, but you can't guarantee the diff load settings, however if its gone 25,000's it cant be too far out!

I am still unsure but very annoyed I spent £400 6 months back getting it how LR should have done it. I may put mine in just to cause them to spend money

    SGW and Gazguzzler,

Any word from LR UK as to when they will be calling vehicles in for the new diff? I have not heard a peep from my local dealer. Thanks.
