    Question on reliablity

    Hello All..new to the forum.

    I'm a newbie who is thinking about getting a Ranger Rover Sport (currently drive an Audi) and am slightly concerned about the poor reputation in terms of reliability. I typically buy my cars and drive them for 5-6 years (50-50k miles) and wanted to get your opinions.

    The long and short is that any car will easily go to over 100K miles with proper care and maintenance. As with any car company, Land has a few quality issues with parts supplied by third party vendors There issues the BMW engine and cooling systems when BMW owned Land Rover and Jaguar. the radiator had poor design from 2003-2005 this cause the transmission cooler to not have coolant flow. Every model has a glitch or flaw discovered at some point. LRNA are usually pretty quick about releasing a Technical Service Bulletin to dealers with a fix, what part are needed an labour time. It can be as simple as a software update on newer models. Just ring your local when you receive notification from your dealer or you read it here.

    I don’t think Land Rover is any worse than Audi to be honest. If you were driving a Toyota or Honda, I could understand the concern.

    4-5 years and 50k miles you should be fine but every manufacturer has a lemon every now and then.

    I’m definitely going to get another Rover and have had a good experience in 62k miles over 3.5 years thus far.

    With that said would I drive one without a warranty? Probably not. Would I buy one without a dealer being close by? Probably not. Although to be fair I’d feel the same way about any of the premium makes like BMW, MB, Porsche, and Audi.

    If you are buying new, the 2019 sports seem to have a $4,000 incentive right now. Not sure about full size.

    I am on my third RR. All purchased new. The first two I kept for 8 years each and never had a serious problem beyond an oil leak in one of the hoses. I am coming up on year 4 with the latest (2016 purchased in 2015) and not a single problem yet. I will be holding it another 4 years I am sure. I was initially worried about the same and heard all sorts of stories, especially when the were under earlier ownership, but I can tell you they have been pretty reliable for me over the long haul. I would think twice about reliability vs. any of the other luxury brands.

    Out of 10/12 Range Rovers (sport generation 1 and 2, evoque, Velar and full size) , I have only had regular dealer trips with the latest p400e sport. But the problems are so far quickly and easily fixable and under warranty. The main issue I had was with an Evoque, it got stuck in neutral and they simply replaced the car with another new one to my specification after I complained about it for a week.

    I've heard that the diesel is having more issues - I recall the service manager saying something about the turbos. This was 2 years ago.

    The Supercharged V8 is bulletproof. I had one in my 2012 RRS - no troubles. My 2015 Jaguar F-Type has it - no troubles. My 2016 RRS has it and you guessed it - no troubles.

    If it's the SDV6, it has a reputation for breaking its crankshaft.

    The SDV8 would be the choice if you want diesel.

    Tdv6 45k miles for me no issues. 27mpg mixed. 30mpg hwy.

    I am pretty sure ford is putting my engine in the f150. I don’t think that would be happening if it wasn’t a good motor.

    it's been modified for the F150.

    Agree SCV8 is an amazing engine. Rumors are it won't be it in the next generation--enjoy it now while you can!

    With that said I'm looking forward to seeing how the new inline 6 drives.

    If you are worried about reliability, then don't buy one. Land Rovers are about passion and the driving experience. If you want beige, buy Japanese.
