Love my 2016 RRS but one option I regret not asking for is ventilated seats. Am I being unrealistic in thinking purchasing a set of ventilated seats to replace my current seats plus the relevant coding will make my dreams come true?
I find that you can feel the cooling effect through the ventilated seats after about 5 to 10 minutes but by that time you've already cooled down (from being outside in hot weather) from the air conditioning so the benefit is very minimal. It's not as great as I thought it would be. Not a must have.
I disagree with the opinions above on the ventilated seats. I love them in my L494. They cool quickly and the airflow is noticeable. I find them much better than the ones on my previous Audi A8.
Second that, dwboston. Also beat the X5's, those were too weak. I will never ever buy a car with leather seats without seat ventilation. One of the most important features imho.
The ventilated seats are not as good as my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee, but they certainly work after a few minutes. The key to better airflow is to reduce the flow on the main AC panel. Knock it down to 2 or 3 bars and that will allow more airflow to the seats. When the AC is running full, it seems like the seats simply don't get enough air flow to make a difference.
The climate seats are not controlled by the blower for the in car ventilation they are both heated and cooled by a thermal electric device. it is located under the seat it has its own blower motor. The same type of device provides the cooling for the cooler box or refrigerator option. This is why the heating of the seats takes some time, it does not use the tradition heating pad that most others use.
The cooling in my opinion does work, it takes time but is a nice option. I wouldn't spend tons trying to retrofit another vehicle just for it.
Bill is correct. The cooled seats work independently of the car's A/C. I had the ventilated seats on the other day without the A/C on (inadvertently) and they cooled quickly with noticeable cold air coming out of them.
We just picked up our first RRS over the weekend and we LOVE the ventilated seats and I think they work great. They are about 10 times more powerful than the Lexus seats and much quieter. That being said, replacing seats to get this feature would likely be a very cost prohibitive decision.
I was under the impression that the cooling effect was due to an electric fan pulling cool air from the passenger compartment through the seats. Am I understanding this correctly that there is an independent cooling element within the seat?
Take a look under your seat you will see the cooling device it is a small thermal electric device that can cool it heat dependent on how the current flows it works on the peltier principal and it has it own small fan.
I had always wondered about this too since the ventilated/cooling seats in my car feel really weak and not noticeable cold at all...
But my only comparison would be one of our previous cars, 2007 Cadillac Escalade, with that car, the cooling seats were sooo strong and you could get cold pretty easily just by leaving them on a short while!
Compared to the RR's, it's like the Escalade's cooling seats were a super strong shower head water flow vs the RR one is like a super weak one that barely has any water pressure ?
I happen to think it works well. the seat portion will always work much better than the back because the back in some vehicles has the massage seats and lumbar that blocks some of the air from passing through. Mine seat cools up fast and I feel it through jeans in a matter of minutes
I really do not see a huge benefit to them. And I have driven in 100 degree heat like a lot of other these past couple months. When expecting AC in your seats I would expect AC on my seats. I will say that the seat do stay cooler but not that big of a deal.
My truck was a leftover and transferred from another dealer. I love the color even though it was extra $$$
I know I am getting off topic but looking at the extra cost items on my truck I would rate them this way.
360 Camera's
Paint
Soft Close Doors
Vented Seats.
I would gladly trade the vented seats and the Soft Close doors for a heated windshield.
And when I use remote start I should be able to have the seats come on. Heated and ventilated.
