Re: Alternate Replacement Head Units for older L405's

    update:

I decided to give my local LR dealer another shot at finding the problem so I dropped off my L405 to them yesterday morning. The service manager told me that he would speak with LR in regards to a good will repair but he couldn't guarantee anything. As of this morning, I still haven't received a call with any news so I assume they didn't even get a chance to look at it yesterday. On the flip side to that, Andy, the seller from Canavie sent me a replacement Android screen try the install again after the problem has been resolved. I shipped the other unit back to him for testing. Anyway, I will update again once I hear something from the LR dealer.

Re: Alternate Replacement Head Units for older L405's

    update:

I called the service manager at the LR dealer today and he informed me that they found the problem. The shop foreman was able to get the ECU's back working so everything is in working order now except the screen. The screen does not even turn on. I guess that means the boards that I swapped over during the install caused a glitch to the system. The bad news is that a brand new factory coded screen will cost $2700. I asked the service manager if I could use a donor screen but he said that he wasn't sure if that's even possible because the screens are coded to the VIN from the factory. Therefore, it would have to be a brand new factory coded screen. I asked him to please verify that with the shop foreman because I definitely don't want to have to pay $2700 for a brand new screen. He said that he would give me a break on the diagnostic charge but I'm still probably looking at about $400+ just for diagnostic. I've already found a donor screen so I hope that it can be coded to work in my L405. Anyway, I'll report back when I have more info.

Re: Alternate Replacement Head Units for older L405's

    update:

Well, I picked up my L405 from the dealer today but apparently the service manager had given me the wrong information in regards to everything working again except the screen not turning on. I actually got to speak with the shop foreman and he said that they ECU's are not responding due to the screen not working. He said that the screen is the gateway for the MOST Network and I would need to replace the screen in order for him to diagnose further but the bad screen is more than likely the source that's causing everything else not to work. I guess that makes sense...I'm assuming that when I swapped the 2 circuit boards over from the original screen to the android screen something must have happened during the install that killed the circuit boards. The MOST network plugs into one of those circuit boards. Anyway, I'm now in search of a donor screen that I can get a set of circuit boards from to swap over to the android unit.

Re: Alternate Replacement Head Units for older L405's

OK guys, I was able to source a brand new donor screen from eBay for $400! That's much cheaper than the $2700 that the LR dealer quoted. I did find a few other donor screens that were even cheaper but the part numbers didn't match my original screen so I didn't want to take a chance because I wasn't sure if the circuit boards would be the same. The 2 circuit boards that have to be swapped over to the new android screen are the key to everything working again. I will update you guys again once it get the new screen unit.

Re: Alternate Replacement Head Units for older L405's

    UPDATE!!!

OK guys, I first want to thank forum members BigladUK and mark1107 for their help in trying to figure out the problem. BigladUK actually found me a cheap donor screen in the UK and I paid a total of only $133.02 with shipping included so I passed on the donor screen that I found on Ebay for $400. The screen from the UK arrived yesterday evening and I transferred the 2 circuit boards over to my new android screen...now my original menu screen is back in order and everything is working again!

CarPlay is confirmed...it's just an adapter that plugs into the USB from the android unit. Your radio functions also stay the same. I'll try to do a video soon.

So the wireless part works exactly as expected for anywhere between 1 minute and 30 minutes then it crashes. I’m sure it’s just a software issue which they’ll resolve soon . For the moment I’m just plugging in via the pass through USB which works pretty well but I’m also experiencing crashes after maybe an hour.

If you are buying a CarPlay adapter deffo get the wireless one so you have the option of both
