SRS light came on cheapest tester to turn it off

Hi SRS light came on cheapest tester to turn it off.
I have looked all over but cannot find out which tester will in fact read the fault reason and let me
turn off the light. Anyone actually have a model number they own and know will do this.
    Thx

Did you PM SCOTTY as noted in the post above yours?

Nanocom Evolution. But at US fuel prices, it would be far cheaper to do a 150 mile round trip......

Alternatively, fix whatever it is that has caused the SRS light to come on in the first place.

We have an entire forum section dedicated to diagnostic gear and P38 coverage has been covered ad nauseum. An afternoon with Scotty will enlighten you far more than weeks or months of casual reading.

Re: SRS light came on cheapest tester to turn it off

Thx its more like 110 each way, but I would like to read the fault to fix it. If it was a fault I caused or a glitch,
I would expect the light to stay off. From my research on the 97 after fixing you still to reset the light, not until
around 2002 did the srs system check itself on every start.

Have you checked the relay under the driver's seat to see if it's tightly connected? I literally JUST read about a '99 P38 owner that had his SRS light come on because the relay was not clicked all the way into place.

Relay? The only relay under a driver's 97 seat that I can think of would be the EAS. Usually with late 99/Bosch and up it's the SRS connector under the seat that comes disconnected... not found on a 97.

I found this but nothing to plug into. I think it comes out of the yellow harness. No shops around can give me a code. No way to reset it manually, wow.

Yes the SRS connector is what I was referring to; I wasn't aware that it only exists on the Boschs.

Thx for the ideas I did not know about the diagnostic threads. I decided to go with Icarsoft 930i
hoping for the same results as this gent.

Re: SRS light came on cheapest tester to turn it off

Yes 'early' US rigs are a bit 'quirky' when it comes to SRS - as you (probably !) still have the individual crash sensors on the front chassis beam (?) If so you are absolutely correct that if you re-set it but the fault condition remains then the SRS light illuminates again, ie. just finding/fixing the fault is not enough in itself.

The SRS protocols that these rigs use are also a bit 'quirky' so I hope your i930Carsoft works out OK too. If it does it was a great investment: Folks charge maybe $50/pop to re-set the light... (Not Scotty though, he is a 'gent' !)
