Review
of the Tonopah
& Tidewater
Expedition Video

I got my copy
of John
Brabyn's T&T video recently and thought I might post a review for any of
you that
haven't seen or purchased it yet.
This video
starts out in Ludlow, appropriately enough. We get a look at the remanants of the
town and
some modern-day BNSF action (I especially liked the contrast provided
by the BNSF
double-stack train whizzing by
Murphy's) and then take a quick jaunt down the Ludlow & Southern. Next, we return to the
T&T and start heading northward. We get some historical interpretation from
Rob Fulton,
then are treated to a run up the Tecopa RR. John McCulloch joins in at Death Valley Junction, and
provides insight into DVJ and points northward on the T&T.
Along the way,
we are treated to a caravan of hard-working Range Rovers, with some nice 4x4 footage. We even get
to see 'em build a temporary bridge to make it up to the Gunsight!
To be honest,
before I watched this video I really wasn't sure how exciting a 250-mile trip down an abandoned
railroad grade would be. But John and his crew manage to make this hour-long tape very entertaining
with lively music, multiple camera vantage points, occasional still shots (both current and
historic) and WHOA! -- even a some footage with the camera mounted on the dashboard. John spares us a
tie-by-tie, rusty-spike-by-rusty-spike narrative of all 250 miles of the
T&T, but
instead allows
us to sit back in our favorite chair and join him on a wonderful journey down our beloved T&T...
all the way to Goldfield. I, for one, enjoyed the ride.
Cheers,
Michael
