Removing
Freeze Plugs
/ Frost Plugs (All)
Frost plugs are often hard to remove and replace due to corrosion
joining them to the engine block. Kevin Kelly reported great difficulty
removing his -- "I beat the **** out of
them but couldn't get them out (I can punch holes in them with a center punch, but can't get them out."
Ron Beckett advises the
following approach based on his experience:
"I did a couple last week on my new motor to fit brass plugs
instead of the steel ones at the back of the engine (on the bellhousing
side)."
"As you've already beaten them up, punch a hole in them, then
hit them to one side to cant them slightly. Get a very big
screwdriver and put it in the hole already punched in the plug and
lever them out. Us something as a fulcrum so you don't mar the block."
