Kevin Kelly's Range Rover 4.6HSE
Removing the grille is a
simple operation on all Range Rover models, but varies slightly from
model to model.
4.0/4.6 Models
Kevin Kelly noticed a
stick inside his grill and reported "I was surprised how easy it was to
remove the grill and get the stick out (while I was in there I cleaned
other stuff out of the radiator)."
Kevin notes that like the Range Rover Classic, the bottom edge of
the plastic grill was painted body color.
To remove it, you first open the hood/bonnet and remove the screws
along the top edge of the grille its top edge that attach it to the
body valance (photo below left). Then remove the two partly hidden
hidden screws in the front of the grille. The grille can then be
lifted out.

Two of the four screws securing
the top of the grille can be seen in this picture. |
There is a hidden screw (center
of this picture) securing the lower left and lower right of the grille.

Range Rover III/L322
Removing the grille on the RR III
is almost as straightforward as for earlier models but there are a
couple of twists.
(Photo at right:
Author's RR III with grille and bumper removed)
1. The top of the grille is secured to the under-hood valance by clips
rather than screws. To disengage the clips it is sometimes necessary to
use a screwdriver to depress the tabs.
2. With the clips disengaged, you can tilt the grille forward and lift
it up, disengaging the pins that hold the bottom edge in place.
3. Holding the grille in a stable position, undo the outside
temperature sensor that is mounted in the grill. This allows the girlle
to be completely removed from the vehicle.
Reassembly: Don't forget (as I
did once) to reconnect the outside temperature sensor -- its absence
plays havoc with the climate control system!
