Black Rock Spring, Nevada
Black Rock Spring was one of the few water holes available to the pioneers crossing the Black Rock Desert on Applegate Lassen branch of the Emigrant Trail. An abandoned wagon lies nearby.
Black Rock Desert
Flooded
In wet years the Black Rock Desert, North America's largest "dry" lake, floods to a depth of up to 3 feet. This view was taken in July, looking northeast across the playa towards Black Rock Point.
Black Rock Overlook
Looking south from a hard-to-reach viewpoint high above Black Rock Point. The vast Black Rock Desert is in the middle background, with the Rock after which it is named at middle right. At middle left is one of the High Dry Lakes.
