Ignition Switch Light

Postby Zorba » Mon Apr 28, 2008 1:26 am

Has anyone had to replace the globe in the light in the ignition switch? I can't find anything in Rave about it and thought maybe that mine doesn't have it. But in Microcat it shows up.
Any short cuts to the job or tips?
TIA

Super easy job. If its your first time removing the steering column surround then I recommend you drop the panel above the drivers knees and remove the instrument binnacle surround.

Once you have done that remove the 2 outermost screws on the underside of the surround. This free's off the top portion of the surround, gently coax this free, takes a bit of fiddling to get it to pop off, but it will.

Now remove the 4 screws left underneath the column and this will allow you to remove the lower half of the surround.

You should now see the ignition barrel, the bulb is fed by a purple and purple/red wire. It located towards the rear of the ignition barrel (towards the back of the car). Just pull on the wires gently and the whole holder will just pop out. Pull the bulb out from the holder and replace with new one and you are done!

The light would be on the left hand side of that photo, it can't be seen in the shot.

Here is a really really fuzzy image I took this weekend of the wiring to the light. You can just see the holder in the far right of the pic (the bulb is push fit)...

Whenever your front footwell lights are on.

Unless you don't have them!

I notice mine after opening the door, before inserting the ignition key, which kind-of makes sense as its purpose must be to help you locate the ignition switch.

I've accessed the switch light fitting - see pics below.
Does anyone know the specs for the tiny little globe? There's no markings on it.

It's a 12 volt 1 watt bulb.

Most auto parts places will stock them, people call them wheat grain bulbs here, well, they certainly do in Halfords as the guy knew exactly what I was asking for.

They are used in other places around the vehicle as well such as the HeVAC unit.

Lastly, what program is that you have to show the parts?? Certainly not microcat!
