Cool New '08 RRS SC (pics!) - Quick EAS question and missing mystery piece?

    Hi all!

Prior Disco owner here who just bought his first RRS! I picked up an '08 SC with 60K on the clock. It's black on black, and I love it so far! I've been reading a ton of threads on this forum trying to get up to speed on a few issues. I love that this seems to be such a great community - I really enjoyed the group over at discoweb.org.

Regarding the EAS, I have the yellow fault light showing. Normal height is fine, drives no problem. And, it will stay parked at off-road height all night so I know the bags aren't leaking. I can adjust the suspension up and down when the start the vehicle before the fault light comes up. From reading dozens of threads on here, I think it's probably the desiccant/drier canister on the compressor (and/or the relay). I'm going to order new ones of each and see if that does the trick. Does this sound right to you guys?

The only other thing that's odd is there's a missing trim/grille piece on the lower front fascia. Looking at some threads in the full-size RR forum it sounds like they're calling it an air intake bezel. But, I can't seem to find anything via Google for the RRS. Any ideas about a part number or where I could look? It's a plastic honeycomb insert in the lower valence below each fog light.

Besides these two things, I think the truck is in great shape. The keyfob seems to like being pressed hard... otherwise it won't signal. I guess the actuator components are wearing out, perhaps?

I attached a few pictures below of the new truck. Also included one picture of my other toy, and, one picture hinting at what I do for a living. Can anyone guess?

    Excited to be here,
    Ben

I don't think that part under the passenger side's fog light is missing. It's not there by design on the Supercharged, since that's the air intake for the intercooler. On non-supercharged models, it's plugged with a (fake) vent on both sides.

Hmm, it looks odd. Take a peek at these two pictures (driver's side with the bezel and passenger's without). You're thinking this is factory?

Yeah, that does look kinda odd. I think someone must have knocked off or cut out the honeycomb guard thingie for some reason... Not sure if that's an insert or if the pattern is molded into the S/C bumper. The fake vents on my HSE look like they're part of the bumper cover itself (like the one on your drivers' side I'm sure), and cannot be replaced.

I just looked at my old bumper and yes you are missing the bezel. It looks exactly like the other side but with holes in them. I believe its part number DXC500021PMA. Do a quick google search and im sure you can pick one up for cheap. Congrats on your purchase by the way.

That's it! Awesome. Thank you for looking. Will be much better without the huge hole.

The suspension sounds like it's the compressor, or part of it at least (drier, exhaust valve, delivery valve, all will give similar symptoms.) With the cost of a new one, and the cost of the different pieces, I recommend replacing the entire unit. It will cost you more up front, but these compressors are junk, and the new one is leaps and bounds better. Not to mention, it puts a good amount of strain on the compressor itself if it is the drier leaking, as it has to work much harder while it is pumping, and who knows how long it has been failing.

Just FYI, raising to High Profile will mask any leaks in the springs themselves, as you're changing the fold point of the rubber on the spring. But I would be seriously surprised if that was your issue, in fact, I am not sure I have ever replaced a spring on a SC RRS due to a leak, the metal gaiters actually do a great job protecting the rubber.

What would be the part number for a new pump.... 08 Sport? Is it a completely new design, or a modified one of the like?
I understand that the relay should be replaced at the same time as well. Is this true?

Re: New '08 RRS SC (pics!) - Quick EAS question and missing mystery piece?

It's completely different. Even the acoustic box containing it and the bracket holding it need to be replaced. The relay needs to be switched, plus you also need a software download for the new AMK compressor (the Hitachi software is different and running the newer pump with the old software could cause faults to pop up down the road.) I think the part # is the same, they will just supply you a whole new kit - which includes everything you need to retrofit it on an old design model, minus the sofware for which you still need to visit a dealer with diagnostics - when you order a replacement compressor from a dealer.

BPUtah.com sells the new kit: https://bputah.com/LR3parts/Land_Ran..._LR045251.html

Just about the only thing I don't like about the new design is that, when mounted, it hangs quite a bit lower under the car compared to the old design (although the new bracket offers better protection.) This can limit your clearance when off-roading somewhat and can also create problems refitting rock sliders (such as my RS ones) that extend under pump and air tank.

Re: New '08 RRS SC (pics!) - Quick EAS question and missing mystery piece?

Just think of the surprise when someone is not aware of the new design and orders a new pump with the old part number, then gets this new kit that is completely different from the original. One would think they got the wrong pump! Nothing on this new design matches up with the old. Kinda interesting though...

For anyone who finds this thread via search in the future... replacing the air drier canister cleared the "normal suspension only" fault light. It was a pretty quick job, too!
