This is my 3rd and probably last Range Rover. April of 2010, my husband brought our '08 RR for service and came home with a 2011 Sport Lux. For whatever reason it took over 3 weeks for the truck to get through customs. The Sport is much smaller than my previous RR but drove much smoother. The first few months the truck drove perfectly. There were a few annoying issues with the HD radio, DVD and windshield wipers. The wiper issue seems to be something land rover carries from year to year because I had the same thing happen in my '08. Very often the wipers swipe once across the windshield when I first start the truck. They also would randomly turn on (1 swipe)while driving on a bright sunny day. We dropped the truck off at the dealership and they said it was a setting that needed to be adjusted. After 5 days of being at the dealership, I picked up my truck and it was exactly the same. If those were the only minor issues, I wouldn't be too upset.
It has been 10 months since we bought the 2011 Sport and 7600 miles later, I feel like we are stuck with a lemon. I haven't found much or any info about these problems after only 7600 miles and less than a year old.
Here are the issues. I've always mentioned to my husband that the truck had a burning smell, he said the smell is normal for new vehicles. It's been 10 months and the "new" smell should be gone by now. We scheduled a service appt for the burning coolant smell, whistling belt sound when accelarting from cold start or idling and sometimes a metal rattling sound when in reverse. The truck also seems to run louder and when I'm stopped at a traffic light, the sound hurts my ears. If you close your eyes, you would think there's a tractor trailer next to you.
Our truck was at the dealership on Monday and it was ready to be picked up Tuesday afternoon. I had to rush there and back before my son was dismissed from school and the truck still sounds exactly the same. The report says none of the problems could be duplicated but they did find an oil leak on the right side of the engine by the starter. Replaced the oil gallery plug. They also did. Multi point inspection report and circled the column that says may require future attention for the accessory drive belt and rear brakes. The report said the issues can't be duplicated and one of the reasons we dropped off the truck was for the squeaking belt sound. I looked under the hood before the truck was at the dealership and noticed that the belt slightly shifts side to side. I figured that the sound was due to the belt needing adjuments. Should the dealership have replaced the belt? Knowing the many functions of the accessory drive I'm afraid of the belt breaking while driving with my kids and losing control of the steering. When I asked about the brake pads needing to be replaced soon, the serviceman said thats very common around 8 to 10,000 miles. Really?? I had a Honda Accord for 10 years and never needed new pads. Even though the truck is under warranty, these issues are a safety concern. Also, most of these issues were once a recall ten years ago. Why do the same problems still exist? Any advice is appreciated. I'm considering trading in this truck and losing money to avoid future aggravation and for safety reasons.
