    Cool RSE Wiring

I swear I saw this before, but searched and couldn't find it.
Can someone post how the RSE is all wired up? I'm looking for things like, how the DVD is connected through the amps, and out to the TVs, etc.

I'm scheming an idea where I replace the DVD player, with a AppleTV or some other similar device.

    Thanks.

Try a different route. How do you remove the panel covering the DVD player in the trunk/boot?

You have to remove the seal on a door and the trunk as well.

Pure genius. Engineering at it's worst.

    Re: RSE Wiring

So.... I tore apart the back today, exposed all the components. Found all the goodies. One thing from the doc, they mention a TV Tuner, and the antenna's being installed on the back windows (cool). I take it those are for non US models? I did some experimenting with disconnecting things and plugging back
One thing I figured out is that the MOST (communication bus) has to be closed loop. In other words, if you unplug something out of the MOST loop, then everything else fails. Basically, it appears the MOST bus is a fiber optic ring and if there is a break, then other things fail. The bus runs around in those orange wrapped fiber optic cables, there's an in/out. I removed the Nokia module, and audio from the radio stopped working, same goes for any other system on the BUS.

Since my DVD player doesn't play DVDs anyway, I went ahead and removed that whole contraption. I figured out why the cassette wouldn't eject, and got that working. I took the whole housing apart and exposed all the "guts" and blasted with air compressor (watch the dust fly). I got it all assembled back together, loaded up a combination of DVDs and Audio CDs (in the DVD cassette). The audio CDs play flawlessly (and sound great), DVDs still fail. Very unfortunate, because the unit works fine, just won't play a G.D. dvd.

While I was back there, I did find a fantastic mounting point for this.
http://www.amazon.com/RADIO-CB-75-RE.../dp/B004HMDDLU. Even found the path and wiring to the center console PTI. So, my plan would be to mount this right next to the Nokia Module in the rear, leverage the wiring from Nokia Module, to the PTI mount in the center console, leave the MOST connection in place (to keep the loop in tack).

    Same topic, different note.
After reading the PDF I found that the Alpine DVD player using the old Ai Net. Basically, the RSE module translates the MOST commands to Ai Net to make control the DVD player. I did a little research and found some older Ai Net adapters for iPods. I don't know if those Ai Net adapters also support video, but that would be the easiest method for interfacing with a large iPod based video system, rather than the DVD player. Maybe just remove the DVD player, get a docking station for a iPod video, interface it with the Ai Net adapter, and Optical cable for Audio. Might just work?

When I get a little more time, I might give it another shot.

    Re: RSE Wiring

Correct, the MOST bus is a fiber optic "ring" connecting IHU (radio head unit), touchscreen display, audio amplifier, SDARS, telephone, and RSE modules. With any of those modules disconnected from the ring, the whole enchilada goes down.

If you are technically inclined, the following training guide may be fascinating to you, as it explains in detail the alphabet soup of all data networks and interconnects found in modern Land Rover vehicles. Enjoy!
