Buying a 2010 Sport Lux Today - Need Help!

So I've been in the market for a 2010/2011 Sport. I let my dream car (2010 Lux Black/Black with Piano trim and Rear Entertainment) get away, when it was sold at a local dealer 20 minutes after I saw it and called the next morning to put a deposit down. The price was unbelievable for the # of miles on the car. Now, I'm left with not as perfect options - in my mind, but I need to buy a new car in the next few months.

There are two 2010 Lux's left locally. I've researched all surrounding areas and there is nothing else available currently in the same price range. One with 40k miles. And another with 20k miles. Both basically the same car (e.g. options, trim, tire wear, etc.). The dealership is asking $5k more for the car with 20k less miles. It seems like a lot. But after a lot of back and forth, they say they cannot budge at all on prices. I have to buy through the dealership because if I go with a certified pre-owned car (6k/100 mile warranty) I can get 1.9% financing. My initial budget was $50k. But I'm stretching it a little to get the remodeled 2010 interior, etc. And I'd be stretching it even more if I were to plunk down another $5 for the car with 20k miles.

Thoughts on the extra 5k for the car with 20k less miles? Is it worth it for 5 grand?

Advice for buying the car - what did you wish you knew before you bought that you know now?

I've always wanted a sport. I've heard some horror stories about reliability. But I've also heard some extremely positive feedback. My only other option would be a 2010 BMW X5 48i - which would cost less than the sport.

I've test driven two different 2010 Lux's. I really like the car. My wife who rode in the rear seat, however, said that the rear side ride was extremely bumpy and terrible. Her comment was she didn't know if she could make a long road trip in the rear seat? I didn't get to ride in the back but have heard about the head room. Comments on the rear seat for those who have the car?

Wow, I'm very surprised and please that the cars are holding their value so well. I'm shocked in fact.
As for the bugs, they have been very few and mostly software gremlins that are 90% fixed by now.
As for comfort, I have never had complaints although bare in mind that this is NOT a big car, so if you have big people in your family they will not be that comfortable.
Oh and I think $5k for 20K less miles is a great bargain and I would take that in a heart beat. But that's just me.
I have had my car just over two years now and if all goes as planned I'll have it at least two more years which is 1 year longer than I have ever held on to any car (of more than 12 cars).
Bottom line, if fuel economy is not a big concern for you (i.e. you don't drive more than 15k miles per year ...) then in my mind there is no better suv on the market. It has the perfect balance of performance, technology, looks, power, class and comfort you could ever ask for. It doesn't feel out of place anywhere. I would be going off roading, clubbing in Hollywood, dropping off the in-laws, or driving the president around, this car fits the bill each time.

Do not bother with the BMW can you say "overrated". I just got rid one one and I have tell you I am shocked how people worship at the alter of the name plate. Talk about reliability issues. The X5 can not hold a candle to the RRSport, not in looks, comfort or performance. Nothing will out perform a LL/RR off road. I would opt for the lower miles RR. The Lux is a great call because of the interior/comfort upgrades. I have the piano trim in mine and it is really sharp. I really think you are going to enjoy it. I have a RRSport SC and I can tell you it is a lot of fun to drive. When I have the touring setting on and the sport setting select it like driving a high performance tourer. Good Luck..

Huh? In Feb 2010, I paid 61K new, for a 2010 with Lux and extended leather. I think those prices are high.

The RRS does have a FIRM ride. It is not the most comfortable ride going but I love the way the truck handles (for an SUV of course) and enjoy the firm ride quality. As far the 5k for 20k fewer miles it's really a crap shoot, whichever means more to you now and in the long-run. Personally I go with the lower mile RRS and offer them 3.5K. There are enough RRSs out there and more coming to market all the time so I wouldn't be too quick to pull the trigger. for what it's worth I just bought a 2010 RRS LUX CPO with 18K for 53K and that included new tires.

I'd jump on the lower mile one. Miles make a big difference not only in resale but on reliability (who knows how well the last guy maintained it?) as well as warranty usage. You've got THAT much more warranty available to you. It's totally possible something could go wrong costing more than $5k to fix on the higher mileage one after you run out of warrant.

The ride is firm , more firm than my LR3 and of course the Full Size I had. I like it though, it's part of the sporty feel.

    Hey Wallawalla!
I was in your same position shopping for my RRS. The dealer here in vegas are high price and dont deal!I wanted a 2011 RRS w ent package for the kids and ended up waiting for the right one(6 months!!)....I was seeing RRS going for 70k and above w 20k miles and I wanted to pull the trigger so bad.....I waited till 2 weeks ago when I found a 2011 RRS White w 3700 miles and ent system...I had the car shipped to Nevada and closed the deal just this weekend. When I inspected the car,it turned out to have the 5 camera system and ultra clean! I was lucky to find it and there are good deals out there so go with your gut feeling......!BTW _ I ended up paying below 67k for my RRS...Good Luck!

Re: Buying a 2010 Sport Lux Today - Need Help!

I've run searches on almost every internet website and through almost all Land Rover dealers. The best I can come up with within 500 miles of Washington, DC is a 2010 Lux CPO with 20k miles for $57k. Or, a 2010 Lux CPO with 40k miles for $52k. I definitely would prefer the 20k model, but I feel like the price is a little high and the dealer won't budge. The problem is I need a new vehicle badly and there is just nothing else out there right now; everything seems to be priced just as high.

As I mentioned, I had found a 2010 Lux CPO with Rear Ent, brand new tires and brakes, piano trim and just 30k for $52k. Some guy bought it instantly after I saw it. It still kills me. I've run prices on the new 2012's and I'm looking at $65k+ for a 2012 Lux.

NYSport, can't believe you were able to get a 2010 Lux CPO with only 18k for $53k. The dealer I talked to with the 20k car said it would be impossible for him to drop below $57k and all his comps are in the same range.

I guess I can try to hold on and see if anything else comes up. But don't want to miss out on a car again. In addition, I'm not sure how long the 1.9% financing with CPOs will be available. In December it was .9% and has already jumped one point.

I agree with some of the others. Don't be in that big of a rush if you can hold out a short bit, dealers count on this which is a good part in why they aren't going to lower the price. I absolutely love my RRS and everything about it, but I must also say that we have a 2011 BMW X5 that has been a flawless vehicle since we bought it. It has the 300HP/300TQ in-line six which is Turbocharged and gets an average of 24MPG. It's my wifes car that she drives on a daily basis and she absolutely loves it. In addition to that, it is a very comfortable vehicle, especially in the rear seats.

Again, the RR Sport is a vehicle in it's own class and power that you'll truly enjoy everyday. I also wanted to mention to you a possible solution as you'll be financing it. Check out this place. You can 'join' for a $5 fee and you can see the rates on the link below... Just something to think about, which also might open your vehicle search...

I was in the same spot three months ago, I moved up to SC vs. Lux, was able to lock in a RRS SC 2010 CPO with 26K, and paid close to 63K @ 0.9% via LR Financing. In my opinion 2010 SC's and above will hold better value vs. Lux, I plan to keep it for atleast next three years.

A few dealership's in south florida have good deals, try AutoNation.com, they own a few Highend LR dealerships in Miami areas.

    good luck !!

do you have to have the LUX? not much difference between the LUX and the HSE with climate care package. The quality of the leather is better in the lux, and there are options for different color seat piping, which looks really nice, but the HSE still has nice leather and all the same options. Rear entertainment is nice but im sure your kids would be just fine with an ipad instead. got to give something up if you want to stay in your budget.

Pay the extra for the mileage. It will save you in the long run.

Re: Buying a 2010 Sport Lux Today - Need Help!

Well, I'm kind of in a bind right now. I just received an offer on my old car that is amazing. I want to sell it, but will then have to acquire a new car in a week or so if I do. Otherwise, I can't sell and then I don't know if I'll get the same price elsewhere on a trade or sell.

I prefer the Lux. There's just something about the 20" rims and tires I like and the premium leather. But have decided that I can forego the rear seat entertainment. I even had my heart set on the piano black trim, but would let it go for the Aingre now.

I would definitely prefer to go with the lower miles, but for some reason the dealership with that car just can't budge below 57k, which I think is too high. I guess they bought it at an inflated price on a trade in?

I've been scouring Cars.com, Autotrader and the Land Rover CPO search for weeks. Can't come up with anything else than the two cars I previously mentioned within a 500 mile radius. Have even been contacting other dealerships to see what they've got. Nothing unless I want to cave on color or black interior. That leaves me with a 2010 Lux w 20k miles for $57k. Or a 2010 Lux with 40k miles for $52k. I can jump up to a CPO 2010 SC with 40k miles but it would cost me $60k. I actually think this is the best deal of the 3. But my initial budget was $52k. $57k would be a stretch and $60k an even larger stretch.

Any other suggestions for places to look? Keep in mind, I'll likely need the CPO process from a dealership to get the 1.9% finance. And I really like the 6 year/100k warranty. I've thought about PenFed, but the 1.9% rate caps out at 48 months. And I'd be losing out on the extra 2 year/50k warranty.

Re: Buying a 2010 Sport Lux Today - Need Help!

I wanted to add this. One dealer with a non-CPO car is pushing me to purchase his car without the CPO. His comment is he would wait until the end of the warranty period AND THEN buy a Land Rover Extended Warranty. He claims this will save money. I noted that a non-CPO vehicle would not be eligible for the current 1.9% 60/month rate. But he believes that they can offer 3.9% without the CPO. Thoughts on going without the CPO?
