    RR Sport 05 Transmission Fault

Dear All, I drive RR sport 2005 2,7 (150 K km driven) HSE. Recently my AT gearbox is giving me hard time. Namely its not shifting 1st to 2nd gear as it should (changing gear right in the end 4-5 K rpm),all the rest gear changing is fine. I have updated my gearbox in dealership (In Estonia its in Northern Europe) but it didnt help. Right now they are suggesting me to change the gearbox. thats really expensive. So i decided to post a thread to you guys and ask for suggestion. ICouldnt find any old threads realated to same topic.

Maybe someone has experienced same problem.

Thanking you guys in advance for any help.

    Regards.
    Chicco

Haven't had that problem. Does it do it in 'sport' mode as well? I would consider simply shifting it manually, if the only alternative is to change out the transmission.

Have you tried doing a transmission flush/fill?

Also as an outside shot, have a LR dealer update the transmission control software w a reflash.

Does it only happen when the engine is cold or all the time. Poor shift quality could also be water comtamination, which I believe some of the RRS's had, not sure of the exact year, that can be easliy identified by taking a sample of oils from the filler plug to see the discoloration of the oil. If its doscolored, then it may need a new assimbley, along with the cooler lines and cooler. If no discoloration, get a transmission flush and then try Goosey's suggestion, as there is no gurantee that the transmission replacement would resolve it.

I'm taking what chicco said "updating the gearbox" as the flash update you guys are suggesting.

    oops my bad.

What about fixing the transmission vs. installing a rebuilt one? Perhaps its just a sticky solenoid or sumthin'.

Re: RR Sport 05 Transmission Fault

IT does it on sport mode aswell. This morning (-15*C here in Estonia) i drove first 3 km without anyproblem. But when i stoped on the first redlight. Car shifted from 1st to 2nd on 4.5K rpm, this harms my engine aswell. Fuel consumption is also right now 14l/km. usually it is 12-13 in winter.

Today i rcvd call frm dealership they have made suggestion to change the gearbox oil, but they also said its not 100% if it will work after this properly or not. changing the gearbox costs 800euros.. sounds really expensive...

At 150,000KM may warrant a flush anyway - if they are changing the oil, make sure you ask them to check for contamination too, could then lead to other fixes.

I had a car than would not shift right and slammed into 2nd gear on the h'way. Blew my engine mounts too - said it was the torque converter that went bad there, was under warranty so they replaced the whole transmission. Not saying yours is the same issue ...

800 euros is about US$1050 for a transmission , does not sound too bad I guess

What is the redline in the 2.7? For our gas V8 engines, the shift points are higher when the car is cold. If you are that cold, perhaps it is just more extreme? Once the tranny is up to temp (15 mintues (?) of driving, and not sitting) does it change any?

Get the transmission fluid changed immediately.

Re: RR Sport 05 Transmission Fault

I have the same problem. I have the fluid changed, i have updated the software (although not on a official dealer's mechanic). The problem persists.
At the beginning i have noticed problems shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. On Sport mode too. On manual i have never had the problem to shift (even when having a hard time to shift to 2nd gear i used the manual to chang it with no problem).
Now after changing the oil i have a transmission fault , and apears an 'F' intead of a D.
Any idea?? Chicco did you solve the problem ??
