Re: Navigation software upgrade for MY 06-09 for $189; worth doing?

After installing the '11-'12 DVD, I noticed that my direction of travel was downward, sideways, or upward on the map as the map stayed fixed. Second issue was that it could not locate an address in the next town over. While going through various setup screens, I noticed that the region set was different than where I was. I suppose this is similar to picking the correct chapter range on a regular movie DVD. Once I changed the region setting to where I am in the northeast, it did find the address and started showing gas stations, etc. Touching the small round compass/North icon reverted the map to being dynamic and vehicle heading upward on the screen. I would suggest checking the region and reloading the DVD to see if you get the compass/direction function back. Perhaps the issue of volume not being adjustable relative to the master volume may also get fixed with a reload.

I sent an e-mail to Land Rover to inquire whether a new DVD is included as part of the factory warranty. I doubt that it is, unless the pre-loaded DVD is faulty, which was true for some vehicles (umbertob had a TSB link on this).

If any of you guys that upgraded to the 2011-2012 disc and have the 2009-2010 disc that they'd like to sell to make up for some of the money they spent on the new disc I'd be up for that. I have the 2007-2008 disc, which is fine, but figured I could do a minor upgrade. I just don't know if I want to spend 200 for the latest when what I have now seems to be fine.

I'd love to, but when I pulled mine out, I saw that it was from 2006. I guess that won't help you too much...

I just had my navigation updated on my 2009 sport to the 2011-2012 version at the LR dealership for no charge.

FYI.... Navigation updates are covered under the manufacture limited warranty; 4 years or 50,000 miles, which ever comes first. Also, if you own a CPO, its cover for 6 years or 100,000 miles.

I discovered this by recently reading over the purchase contract that I signed - I was shocked when I saw that it was covered!!!

I brought my car in and they updated it with the new DVD and gave me back the old DVD.
I just got off the phone with Land Rover North America. They called me after I sent a written inquiry about whether new discs are covered as part of the warranty. The answer was that new updated DVD maps are not included as part of the warranty. Perhaps you had a lucky break that your dealership was able to get the new DVD under their interpretation of the warranty. The rest of us should not feel bad for paying.

Rebooting the system fixed my North Up issue. Big improvement.

    Thanks again for the tips.
