Hey guys,
I've got an 06 range rover sport SC'ed, had the engine replaced before due to an overheat issue, had the transmission rebuilt too. A while ago, it started with these weird symptoms and I just can't figure out what the problem is. Looked under the hood, looked at the props, the transmission, the transfer case, the diff, no weird noises, nothing that shows anything needing to be replaced or fixed.
The problem is: It happens after the car is warmed up, I take it out for a drive in "D", whenever I pass 40-50 mph, I let it go to the highest gear possible (suppose it's 6) meaning the RPM would be around 1-2k rpm, if I keep my foot on the pedal at about 5-10% the car would drive fine however, if I accelerate more BUT not downshifting it starts to vibrate, I mean like a driveshaft vibration coming mainly from the gear selector until the boot, I can see RPM hesitation/fluctuation whenever the vibration is happening, I automatically assumed it's something in the prop shaft going from the transfer case to the rear diff, looked in there, no leaks, grease is still there, everything seems just fine. I did realize however I have a rubber boot from the front left axle starting to give away but that's not the issue! the vibration is very weird, I can feel it from the gear selector, from the steering wheel, it stops if I let my foot off the gas or if I keep my foot on the pedal very slightly like I've mentioned before (5-10%). It happens whenever going over that percentage no matter what gear it is but it vibrates violently whenever I keep it on the same gear and and accelerate meaning more load on the engine as I'm not allowing it to downshift. Any idea what this problem could be? where I can start? I've heard of:
- Injectors
- Throttle cleaning
- Transmission software update
- Valves
Lots of other things, now if I'm gonna replace all of that might as well just throw away the car as I already replaced a SC'ed engine and a transmission and that costed ALOT.
No check engine, engine seems to idle fine and power is just fine except the vibration isn't.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks.
