This is a first (for me any who, and i've had 4 classics) So we had gone through and replaced all the suspect items that cause a motor to suddenly cut out, Alternator, MAF, Ignition Mod, TPS, cleaned all the ground points..... Everything but the coil...
So today while driving around the Rover started cutting out, so, swing into auto parts house, grab a coil and swap it out right there in the parking lot.
Fired the motor up, ran smooth, went to shut the hood and from under the hood SPARK... motor dies......
I'm like what the hell????? So i grabbed the flashlight, and slowly lifted the hood peering under the side with the coil.......
Guess what...... The hood support rod had popped loose and shorted across the + side of the coil.... and hence motor dies.... After looking at the rod, you could see this had happened before with several scorch marks on the rod.
So, made sure the plug cover was over the condenser side of the coil, and pinched the hood rod holder so it would keep the rod in place while driving....... Made a 200+ mile trip to the coast and back not a missed beat...
ONLY IN A ROVER![]()
