    What's that warning light?

We have here a 1990 RRC 3.9i GCC spec (low tech, no code display)
Have no Owners manual to read what this means.

We are talking here about the light with the exclamation mark and yellow/amber colour.

Had the same light before and disconnecting the battery solved the issue for a while, but now its back...

The light came up again a few times and I just reset all by diconnecting the negative on the battery.

BTW this model is not equipped with cats therefore no o2 sensors!

today something new came up - the light got on while driving. was standing at a traffic light and felt some light vibrations from the engine and right after than I recognised the light (of doom)

what would be your next guess to check??

Is it just an exclamation mark, or is there a circle around it? Sounds like the brake pad sensor to me.

Your linked image is to another forum to which many of us don't have access.

However, I do.... and I can't identify it. It doesn't match the instrument panel layout pics I have here.

It doesn't look like the brake warning.

Wait! I found another pic. From the position, it might be the Check Engine light (which should be red)- the image I have shows the words but for a GCC version, maybe they did use an exclamation mark.

Thanks for the tip. Got punished for my laziness.

Here the same pic at a different place.

The brake light is a different one which is red and has the mentioned circle.

This light is more between yellow and amber. Ok lets assume this is the GCC version of the "engine light", where would you start to dig to find the fault. From most likely to least likely.

Forgot to mentioned, that the two lights at the bottom of the panel are for charge and oil.

Yep, that matches the workshop manual I have here.

ok, lets assume "Exclamation Mark" equals "Check engine" ... and from there?

As I understood, when "check engine" comes up dig under your seat and read the code. Trouble here this works with the North American specs.

GCC Spec means low tech and so honest labour and expertise is required.

The light of doom is back!

So guys put the thinking caps on and help me with this!

    For a start:
Which sensors are checked from the ECU at the start process?
Which sensors play a role after a while driving?

Why I am asking - after reseting the car the light comes up while driving and moderate throttle. Tried also reving the engine stationary and it didnt came up.

Pardon my stupidity, but what exactly is a GCC low tech?
To protect your Land-Rover against theft, always remove the ignition keywhen parking.
As an additional precaution the distributor rotor arm may also be removed.

Differences of the cars delievered to the Gulf - I could so far determine - in comparision to US or EUR Spec:

no code reader or display (14 CUX ECU)
    no cats
    no ABS
    no traction control
    low compression rate (fuel quality)
some models came with additional or upgraded engine oil cooler and transmission cooler.
fabric seats but leather steering wheel (might be standard in other markets as well, not sure)
    no third break light
    all labels in Arabic

    Re: What's that warning light?

Sounds like less potential trouble to me!

Anyway, regarding Ron's suggestion, on a similar page for a 1987 RRC (probably the same document), it says:

EFI - Electronic Fuel Injection warning lamp (red) indicates failure of air flow sensor, throttle potentiometer, water temperature thermistor of Lambda sensor.

I don't know how much of these components where deleted in a GGC low tech, apart from the lambda sensor. In the electrical diagrams the EFI / Check engine lamp is directly connected to the engine management ECU. Maybe try and disconnect the battery for a while, see if it clears? If there's such a thing as an air flow sensor (MAF?) a healthy dose of carburettor cleaner will change things? IANAM, but I gathered as much from the Forums. So beware.

    Good tip - thanks!

Got the section of my Arabic owners manual translated and the light actually referrs to the Fuel injection. Equivalent to the"EFI" light in other specs.

That's good news because this narrows everything down to a few trouble makers. Disconnecting the battery does clear the light but it comes back on pretty soon.

So I will work my way through the sensors (water temp and oil temp), crank position sensor and MAF. Cleaning and in doubt function test.

    Something else??
