    Speaker upgrades, any recommendations?

After fixing the knackered door lock on the drivers door... got fed up with climbing over from passenger side, I noticed that I have no speaker in the door. So with that in mind I'll assume that the other is the same! I do have some in the rear headlining but haven't given any notice to them.So what are my options? Remembering that I have just come from an L322 Vogue (11 speakers + Sub)!

I changed out the speakers in my Mercedes ML to try and get a more Range Rover sound... mixed success, triumphed when I added an active bass speaker under the passenger seat!
6.5" three ways in the front 5.25" two ways in the rear doors and an active bass under the passenger seat!

From what I could see there isn't a lot of room in the doors so what will fit? FYI bigger the better!!

I have focal 6 1/4 all over my classic, the body does not loan it self to the deep notes of the base thus I ended adding a bazooka sub as a sound enhancement. on the rear doors I used speaker riser rings, not a flush mount but it seals the notes quite nice.

Well in the end I went for some Vibe Slick 6 component speakers, they are 6.5" and have a mounting depth of 58mm (2.25"), although they are still a work in progress, they are in and sound way better than the rubbish that was there to start with. I have still got to sort out a spacer only to seal them.. as they are in the position of the missing door pockets and they sit on the 2 ridges which has caused a 1/4" gap in the space between. Even with this gap they sound very promising!

What size are the rear speakers in the headliner in the cargo area?
Also, I'm getting a lot of noise through them even with the volume off. Whining & crackling. Bad ground or is it an alternator issue (I recall hearing something about the alt could cause the noise).

I haven't touched the rears yet... so they are what the car came with.

You shouldn't be getting any noise from the speakers with the radio off.. sounds like a wiring issue.. or if it's only with the radio switched on.. sounds like it's past it's sell by date. The alternator should have suppressors fitted as std, copper HT leads can cause issues too...
