Move the chair to the most forward/upward position and just pull the headrest up hard.

Do you have power or manual headrests? The workshop manual is pretty vague on this, but if they are power, the headrest might need to be in the highest position, then pull it up?

I'll give mine a shot when I get home this afternoon...

Yep, ran them both all of the way up, then they popped right out with a moderate tug.

I'd hate to think you would need to remove the seat cover to get to the motor and lift cable to see if there is a problem there, but if a good yank doesn't get it, you might not have many other options.

I have this problem too. How about when it will not go up? I can hear the little motor running when I use the up switch, but no motion. Is my only option brute force to pull it up? Or is there a better way?

    Iceberg,

The headrest is connected to the raise/lower motor by a flexible cable. Sounds like there is a problem in that area. You have to pretty much disassemble the seat back (squab) to get to the goodies, so it might be a pain, but the process is covered in the workshop manual...
