For future reference just in case anyone has the same water ingress problem - this is an issue and fix and didn't see anywhere else when doing plenty of searching.

Symptoms: steaming up windows, damp carpet, water dripping around heater blower onto peddles etc (so not o-rings obviously). Suspected pollen filter covers etc and stirpped all that back and sealed things up - problem remained but not too bad. Then had lots of snow and ice for weeks, and after the thaw very big problem, lots of water in footwell, could catch water running out of pedal area. Then saw wet headlining above sun visor.

Investigation: suspected sunroof, so checked drain tubes (see other posts) and all seemed well. Removed inner screen pillar trim, sunvisor brackets and eased headlining down - soaking wet from leak and condensation. Poured water into sunroof channels and no issue. Poured it onto roof above screen and it literally ran out inside of the car and hit the steering wheel (as headlining moved down). Suspected windscreen sealing, so removed side then upper screen finisher and poured water on the screen/body join - no problem - couldn't recreate the waterfall? So then poured on roof again next to the front-back running strip for roof racks and waterfall. Removed that strip (it just pulls upwards against stong clip pressure), and found the culprit...

Problem: A hole in the original seam-sealer where two steel panels join beneath the roof-rail running strip. In my case it would have been just visible in front of the ruuning strip behind the screen finisher, but best to remove the rail to be sure. In my case i suspect the hole has been there from manufacture. Under the screen finsiher some sealer had been squirted in the the trim in place, and i suspect this had blocked the hole reasonably well but the cold and ice had dislodged it and allowed much more water in.

Fix: Blew some compressed air into the hole to clean and dry it up (came whistling into the cab...) - then sealed with a quick squirt of RTV sealant. Reassemble and then spend several days trying to dry waterlogged carpet etc...

hope it may help someone else with water problems ;)

Could you please spell out for me how to take off the black strip (roof rack strips). Pics would be great. THANKS!!!!
no pics i'm afriad as all back together now, but just slide back the sliders (where the rack would go), put your finger in and pull up vertically. The clips are very strong, but are just push fit sprung clamps which fix to the vertical ridge in the middle of the channel, so by pulling upwards they just pull off. There are about six of them along the length. once you've done the first one (start at the front), the rest come easily because you then have some leverage by lifting the strip.

Logrover, Thanks so much for this great post !

I've been suffering with this issue for about two years, I've asked 2 garages to find and fix. No luck.

All went OK. Removing the two roof rack strips was easy, used wide screwdriver inserted in front fixing slot to gently lift strip, and then a wide blunt chisel to gently ease under the raised strip, after the first clip released the rest was easy... piece of cake

Next I broke a lot of clips getting the windscreen top trim off  (over confidence!)

Anyway, I think I've nailed the problem, so I don't care. I've left all the trim off, to see if it's really totally fixed, ugly but effective. Now drying out the interior.

BTW I used a pressure washer to wash all the rubbish out of the gullies, then dried with a hair drier. This left a clean result, if a slightly more damp interior.

Right side (UK driver's side) seemed suspect, but also checked left side seam and added a bit of sealant there too.

Finally, I couldn't find a link to how to get windscreen trim off, but it may me my inexperience with this forum. Are then any guides to re-fixing the windscreen trim?

Thanks for this write up. I'm wondering if this would account for my issue, which is:

After rain, water gets into the front reading/map light assembly and also patches of roof in the rear near each reading light. When I unclip the front reading/map light assembly and let it fall down a good cup of water falls out. Here's the clue for those who know more than me, it only happens when the car is parked uphill ie the bonnet is higher than the rear. It never happens when the front is lower than the rear as is usually the case as the road is slightly downhill where I park. It's when I reverse in and it rains that the problem occurs. The drain tubes etc are not blocked.

Any ideas? My local Indy mechanic can't figure it out.

Regards

Andrew

Andrew I presume you have a sunroof, mentioning the drain tubes.....my sunroof channels were filling parking in the same manner.....also a cup of water and also in the rear

Pretty proud of myself and then Rover (we call her "Beast") put me back in my place. My attack on our water leaks... Consistently I have drips from the passenger foot well (h20 NOT coolant), we also have one that is running down the windshield and appears to come from the headliner (also passenger). These could be related? Then occasionaly we have a couple drips coming from the map light.

Last weekend I pulled out all the hood cowl pieces, popped the metal covers off the pollen filter boxes, fresh pollen filters, fixed the pollen filter cover seals, replaced the plenum filter, vacuumed all the crud out, silicone on all the vulnerable areas. Then yesterday I cleaned up my sunroof tracks, seal, flushing (50/50 mix of warm water and simple green) and clearing (via cat5 cable) the drains.

Then I really eff'd up. I proudly walked into the house and proclaimed to my wife, "I can't wait for it to rain... I think I fixed our leak!"

FF>> 12 hours and we wake up to freezing rain and the leak from the top of the windscreen is worse than ever. After some searching I landed on this thread and am grateful to have a great community of people to help me on my next steps without paying someone else $100/hr to fumble around in my truck! I'll be pulling up the roof rail track on the passenger side to look for the mentioned hole this weekend. The other thought is that my window seal is crummy and that the dramatic drop in temp accentuated the issue. I'm pretty sure that I don't have an OE windscreen so it seems plausible.

Thanks to this topic I found my issue.

- identical problems as topic starter
Wet footwell at doorside and after heavy rain the top of the A pillar wet.

Problem: windscreen doesn't touch the glass sealant at the same place as he has a hole. You don't see it but when you blow compressed air along that spot you feel a little wind inside at top of the windscreen.

To be sure I filled the gap with rock7 hopefully it is now water tight.
