The updated RF receiver YWY500170 to solve battery drain

    Hi,

I make this post because it looks like that there are still many P38 suffering from battery drain.

I consider that mod very important since battery drain can cause odd issues on that vehicle :
-alarmed BECM (need to dismantle it and have it unlock)
    -burnt door locks
    -EKA mode not responding
    ....

All the information is here :http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdet.../batdrain.html

Stock receiver do not work with new wireless environment : Wifi, Bluetooth, Infrared, Home-Link, Alarms, Key-Less Entry from other cars, Remote from other P38s....

Consequence is BECM do not go asleep and battery drain in those conditions is 500mA instead of 50-100 mA.

That explains that a non asleep BECM can drain a battery in 2 to 5 days instead of 3 weeks.

All years of P38 may have the problem since last P38 is 2002 and Updated RF receiver was released in 2005.

How to recognize genuine updated RF Receiver (or how not to be screwed)?

    First, find the **** box.
It's here on RHD in the trunk near rear RHD seatbelt and very closed to the push button to fold back seat

Watch this photos found here : http://www.mez.co.uk/p38.html

They all look the same and there's not any information or PN outside.

The only way to know what you really have is to dismantle it. The lid is clipsed

You do not need any reprogrammation for this reliability mod.

    Cheers

Nice post, but all I've done to resolve the issue is remove the antenna. Done. Jobs a goodun at no cost, and the remote still works from about 2 meters away.
Now I can park under electric power lines without the issues....

Lucky you , i tried that on a customer car that had the problem and it didn't work. It lost remote even from the interior 10 cm next to the receiver.

That's a shame it didn't work for one of your customers as those modules are one hell of a price here. I think I was quoted 135.00 from the main dealer...

    Hello Flo,

I got a new lockset which has the interim receiver. What is the difference between the two?

    Regards,

    Hello Gayan,

    Best wishes for 2011.

Interim receiver is less wireless proof than YWY500170

Great info, I am suffering from RF receiver interference in my garage (see http://www.aulro.com/afvb/p38a-range...ml#post1442794), can you guys tell me if this part number is just for UK, or will the same part number work in Australia?

Same part # here in the states, Glen. My 98 is suffering the same fate, if it sits for more than 3 or 4 days.

But, at $280.00USD(wholesale), I think I'll try the unplugging routine first.

Re: The updated RF receiver YWY500170 to solve battery drain

Have just suffered the battery drain problem - quick check with ammeter shows BeCM not going to sleep so disconnected the antenna from the RF Receiver. Remote still works from 5m away .............. and BeCM still not going to sleep So I have disconnected the whole receiver module and that has done the trick Quick check on WiFi and, sure enough, a new 'unsecured' WiFi network shows up. Over to neighbours - yes it is their new WiFi hub and yes they will secure it - do you think I should get them to pay for the new receiver ................ perhaps not.

You should have cancelled your broadband. Used their unsecured connection and bought the new receiver with what you saved !

Good news is that all people that solved battery drain will avoid burning of the door locks due to awake BECM

    Hi Flo,

If the new receiver works on a different frequency how come it works with existing key fobs?

It must work using the same frequency. I can only assume that they have tightened up spec on the band pass filter and/or the unit may be looking for some of the coding on the signal in some way before allowing the signal onto the BeCM.
