HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

Let's keep it tight and informative. Similar to tirerack.com and their customer reviews of tires, I'd like to make this a thread where fellow RR owners can go for facts on tires based on others real life experiences. Please keep unvalidated opinions to an absolute minimum as they can often hinder more than they help. To those that read the following posts, I hope that the following information helps you in your quest for the best tire purchase.

    ...so we're off...

What tires do you have? Be specific if possible as there is more than one 'Michelin' or 'Pirelli' model.

    Current mileage?

    Type of driving? Highway...snow...off road...rain/wet...summer?

    Pros/cons? Wear...hydroplaning...ride comfort...handling...etc...

    Would you buy them again?

Anything else that we would want to know?

Had pirelli scorpions all round when purchased, put on a pair of Continental contact's on the front 12,000K ago, scorpions on the back probably have 10,000K's left.

    255/65 16

QUIET AS! good on the highway, not much wet/mud in my dry part of the world. and CHEAP. So hope they last.

My car is about 60% Highway, 35% city and a bit of everything else.

    Here goes.

Have Nitto Terra Grapplers, size 255/55/18. Had Pirelli Scorpions ST beforethat. Approximately 1,500 miles.

Drive a good combination of highway, some city, beach, off road in the woods.

Good traction off road, but haven't had wet conditions yet. More noise than the scorpions, but much more agressive tread.

Will strongly consider guying again, but will also look at General Grabber A/T 2. Hoping for Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo to come out in 265/60/18 or similar size

    Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revo 255/70/R16

About 3k on them so far.

Primarily Highway (City/backroads); Also Offroad (Woods/Mud/Rocks).

Pros: Nice balance for an A/T. Does well on highway (really quiet considering aggressive tread). Very capable offroad. Does adequate in mud, dirt, rocks and such. Jury still out on snow (first winter in them coming up). Really thick sidewalls. (Hit a sidewalk hard enough to kick my Rover sideways, and the tires didn't puncture or pop off the rims).

Cons: Heavy tire. Expect minimal MPG decrease due to stickiness and weight of each tire. Does not come in OEM 255/65/R16. No way does this outweigh the Pros IMO.

    I would buy them again.

I am still amazed at the ride quality and quietness of these A/T's. There isn't enough on the dial to reply with wear problems, or mileage totals, but I will edit once they get higher on the dial.

Can't believe I am the first to chime in with Yokohama's

    Yokohama Geolander H-T/S G052 255/55 18

I have about 5,000 miles on them thus far.

Mostly on road in dry and wet pavement. Haven't had the chance to try them out in the snow and ice yet. Have also had them in beach sand.

Pros - Excellent handling on road in both dry and wet conditions. Low road noise. Great ride quality. Decent price.

Cons - "Aggressive" performance road tire means shallow tread depth. This has me worried re: driving in snow and ice. Recently had them on the beach on the NC Outer Banks. Treads QUICKLY clogged with sand, the (short) tracks that I left looked as if I had slicks on the Rover.

Would I buy them again? Probably so. Winter driving will tell the tale.

    Bridgestone M/T 673 & A/T 694. 673 for summer, 694 for winter.
    225/70x16 & 225/75x16

    A/T- 13400km, M/T-3400km

    All weather, on&offroad. No studs.

A/T:s no bad words, good for winter driving also.
M/T:s performs well onroad too, noisier than A/T:s but not bad. Not affects fuel consumption noticeable, even rolling is not so good.

    Yes, would buy them again.

Started out with Pirelli Scorpion ST/R's 255/55/18.
Developed horrible unexplainable shudder at high way speed (around 55 only). Also bad steering wander. The truck would follow ruts bad (dangerous at highway speeds). I was confident with them in wet weather on road, but would never dare to venture off the beaten path. Changed to Michelin XPC's 255/65/16. Steering vibration was gone as was the tendency to follow ruts. Highway performance is as good as the pirellis and the offroad performance is unbelievable. Would definetly buy the XPC's again.

ps. As of around the 1st of the year I installed a set of '06 rims (19") with a set of Latitude Tour HP from Michelin. Nothing to complain about as far as ride goes. Cornering is slightly improved. One surprise is that I got was playing around in a parking lot when NY got hit with 27"'s of snow. There was more than 27 in the lot. I got stuck somehow. A few turns of the wheel left and right and a little 4ward and reverse and I was out. I'd say I put alomst 10K miles (yes I drive my Rangie ALOT!!) and there isnt noticable wear. I would definetly buy them again.

Better than the Michelin's that I replaced XPC (albeit worn badly)
better road handling, less noise, no vibration.
Predominately pavement pounders but do have to cope with occasional snow and very slick conditions.

    would buy them again!

    9000 miles

quiet on the hiway, great wear...55,000 miles warranty
Great road tire, didnt do great in the snow but got us through...we were in 12" of snow and ice in previous tracks, stuck in ditch trying to turn around Ditch was 8-10 deep and filled with fairly fresh snow.
we drive mostly on the hiway and around town so it is great for that

Ever heard of FALKEN ZIEX S/TZ-01, this is a new tyre from FALKEN JAPAN. I am currently using these under my Range Rover 4.6HSE '94 and I really love them!

I do not do offroad driving with this car, so I cannot comment this, but the onroad performance is incredible. I used to drive Synchrones from Michelin. These FALKEN's are running so smooth and quite when I compare them to these Michelins.

At this moment i have driven approx 5000KM on these tyres. Size is: XL 255/55R18 109W

    Bye,

    "On Road"
    Stock Michelins 255/55/18

    Current mileage? 45k

Type of driving? Highway...snow...off road...rain/wet...summer? Highway all season (CA driving no snow)

    Pros/cons? Wear...hydroplaning...ride comfort...handling...etc...
Pros: Excellent, long life 45k and still has half tread life left
Cons: i dont think they make them anymore

Would you buy them again? Yes in a minute

    "Off Road"
    245/75/16 Goodyear MT/R

Current mileage? These are an "off road" set of tires i bought brand new so they prolly only have less then 750 miles on them.

Type of driving? Highway...snow...off road...rain/wet...summer? Highway to get me off road (typically that means 1.5-3hr drive "on road" then the rest is all off road driving. typically in CA we see soft dirt, hard packed dirt, sharp rocky rock crawls, mud

    Pros/cons? Wear...hydroplaning...ride comfort...handling...etc...
Pros: awesome off road tires... their extra hard sidewalls fit the heavy weight of the RR perfectly. ive "aired down" to 18psi and never had a problem breaking a bead (knock on wood) and they have great grip on the rocks.

Cons: these suckers are HEAVY and they can be a PITA to balance

Would you buy them again? YES in a minute
