Yokohama Advan. Absolute crap. Dangerous in the amount they tramline. Cant wait for them to wear out so i can get Coopers or Maxxis..

I've had the UHPs (235/70R16) on the DT and was very pleased with them. Can't judge longevity, but performance onroad and in wet conditions was real good.
Not bad looking and quite cheap to! We have some customers with UHPs on P38a and RRC (all 16"), and haven't heard anyone complain yet.

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

I Im a new owner of a stock 2001 Range Rover with 16" Wheels.
Has anyone mounted any BF Goodrich AT s successfully to a stock p38.
I live In Lake Tahoe, CA and have used BFG ATs here (on a 1990 4Runner, 2001 Tundra, 1999 Dodge 1500, + 2004 Dodge 1500) and love them in the snow, light off road, towing and all around ..
They have good tire wear and are great in snow at least for the first 25,000 miles or so.
Id like to get some BFG ATs, but they dont make them in the stock size..
Has anyone found a great winter/ light off road tire that fits well on 16" wheels on a stock ride.

    Thanks
    Corey

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

    Hello all.

    Excellent thread!

I bought the 2001 P38 with 18" Hurricanes. They had the Mich. on them not sure of the type, but they were o.k. at best. I would remember if they were something worth writing about.

    As for now:

Upgrade to the 19" 2003 wheels. Like the look a lot. I got me some Bridgestone Turanza's 255/50/19 off the ebay for a great price.
I was running these in the summer and using the 18's for winter. Decided to keep the summer 19's on all year to see what would happen.

How bad could the winter get....well, anyone that watches the weather knows we got slammed here in New England this winter.

I must say. These tires are like drag slicks at this point and the Range Rover still got me out of piles of snow. I would not drive on the beach in a snow storm but I was very impressed with how well the Rangie handled more than once.

    Pros: Sticky traction.
Cons: Everything else, wear, getting caught in ruts, ride, you name it.

    NO NOT BUY THESE TIRES!

Here is the deal: I am getting tires in the next few days.

I would like to go with a bigger tire on the 19" wheel. I have seen many other postings the say there are no good tires for this size. Can I go with a combination in size that will offer me a comforable ride but with limited tramming? For example a wider with a bigger aspect ratio or vice versa? I have been reading other blogs and one guy put the recently United States released Goodyear Kevlar on his 2003/2004. Any reviews on these.

Ultimately, go with a bigger tire on my 19" wheel instead of stock 255/55/19's.

Big commitment. I would like some solid feedback before I shell out the money.

So, with regards to 20's, is there one commonly accepted "best option" for street use? I'm going to keep my stock 18s with their current tires (which are more off roading focused) so I don't need all season tires good in the snow... rather, want quiet, comfortable tires that can handle rain or shine.

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

So I have narrowed down the list of suspects.

I have decided to go with the 18's and upgrade to 31's with 265/60/18's.

I have read the reviews on tire rack but I wanted to ask fellow Range Rover drivers before I make the purchase.

    1) Yokohama Geolander H/T-S G052
    2) Hankook Ventus AS RH07
    3) Kumho Solus KL21
    4) Michelin Latitude Tour
    5) BFGoodrich Radial Long Trail T/A
    6) Dunlop Radial Rover A/T
    7) Dunlop Rover H/T
    Hankook RA07
    9) Michelin LTX A/S
    10) Yokohama Geolander A/T-S

I have read the thread and have gotten some solid advice thus far. I don't expect any one person to know everything about these options but if anyone knows if one tire tread makes the Range wander on the highway more than another/ less noise/ better traction/ even wear/ etc. - please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

they tramline like crazy to the point i replaced many steering parts with no improvment
i tried my friends wheels with at2,s on steering suddenly improved massivly (same size hurricanes)
also very poor off road (couldnt get up a wet muddy bank) and poor in the snow compared to my old discovery with at2,s on

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

I put 95,000 miles on a set of Pirelli STR's. I found them to be great tires. They obviously lasted long enough. Mostly highway driving, with some occasional off road and a good bit of time in the snow. The tires were great on the highway. They probably would have given me some more miles, but they were oversized and I didnt have a spare so I no longer trusted them as there were a few signs of dry cracks forming. I didn't buy them again, because I wanted more aggressive tires and because the Nittos just look impressive - I had to try them out.

I am now running Nitto Terra Grappler 285/65/R18. They are I believe the best looking tires I have ever seen. They are oversized as well and throw a good deal of spray onto the side of the vehicle. I am adding mudflaps but that is an imperfect solution because they have so little clearance with the 32" tires. For aggressive tires they are fairly quiet. I cannot wait to do some off roading in them but have not been able to yet. I only have about 500 miles on them now. Will let you know...

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

This tire forum goes for miles but it is also 5 years old, so figured I would see if there is an update to my question.....

I need a recommended tire for my 2001 Range Rover 4.6 with the 18" Hurricanes 255/55/ R18. Forgive me but I don't off-road so I am looking for the best "road" tire there is with lowest road noise being first priority. With that being said we do experience all 4 seasons here in PA, so they also have to be very capable of snow, rain, sleet, etc.

Currently have Michelin 4x4s, not thrilled with them... (From previous owner but a lot of dry rot, cracks, etc.)

Any recommendations would be VERY helpful, thanks!

PS - Not interested in buying different size rims.

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

well... i worked at a tire store as a tire tech for a year and a half, so from a techs point of view, michelins and toyos have the softest sidewalls of all, generals and continentals have the stiffest, continentals are especially a pain to mount.

i have used michelin 4x4s offroad and they are pretty decent, im currently running kumho road venture kl78 tires and i dont have any complaints, they have gotten me though sno, light mud, and some light trail duty already, i believe the are available in our size currently (im running 267/75R18 (32.5inchers)) road noise is minimal because they have a very mild tread, and they are pretty comfy, i havent had any complaints about them yet aside from some rubbing due to the size im running lol.

also ran some toyos on my 22s and they were actually pretty decent when i did some light trail riding in my rover (yes on my 22s, no they arent currently on my rig anymore)

i would just look for a toyo or michelin or kumho all terrain tire, our vehicles are pretty unstoppable as long as you know how to drive, you really cant go wrong with the tires.

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

well i searched through about 5 pages and couldn't find a review for mine and then gave up so here goes:

    What tires do you have?
    Hankook Dynapro ATM 265/65/18

    Current mileage?
    30000 miles

    Type of driving?
60% highway 10% trail riding 30% in town

    Pros/cons?
they still look brand new after 2 years and 30000+ miles! Comfortable ride, great in snow/wet/dry. Great wear as well. Very little tire noise, even at highway speeds.

    Would you buy them again?
Of course! if i don't switch to 16's (id like to keep the stock Prolines in my Westminster though, just to keep it together...) i'll definitely buy them again. The larger size has been great but access mode is useless now for moving at all and highway mode is fine until you need to take a sharp turn or hit large road imperfections... then you get a little rubbing. this has been minimized by my higher height settings and the fact that you usually don't meet large road imperfections or take sharp turns at 80MPH...

Anything else that we would want to know?
When i bought them, they were for a great price and if you care about looks, then you'll love the aggressive tread and sidewall pattern. They back the aggressive design up with performance to match as well! Ive had a few friends ask about and eventually buy the same tire for their rigs. VERY recommended!

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

I appreciate the responses and feedback, but I am trying to keep the spec tire size of 255/55/r18. The kumho road venture kl78 does not come in this size.

Ok, so I have limited my decision to 2 tires based on their value to cost. Anyone have any experience or comments they would like to share on these:

    Sumitomo HTR Sport H/P
    Kumho Road Venture APT KL51

    Thanks

Re: HERE IS OUR OFFICIAL P38A TIRE REVIEW THREAD

I would highly recommend the Kumho Road Venture. I had these on my last P38, in the 255/55/R18 size. They are slightly wider than the Michelin XPC's and once I had them mounted and a four wheel alignment done, tram-lining on the highway went away entirely! I was very impressed with the on road performance wet and dry, very quiet tires. They were decent in the snow and ice.
The thing that impressed me even more about these tires is that I would take them of road frequently and they always performed better than expected. The added surface area gave great grip on rocks and they held up really well after an entire summer on the trails. My friends would give me a hard time about my "highway" tires but I never had a problem. Ironically a friend of mine had Nitto Terra Grapplers in the same size (255/55/R18 109S XL) on his DII and he cut two sidewalls within a week while running trails right behind me. This probably has more to do with driving experience than tires but my point is that in my experience the Road Venture is a great tire and can take some abuse as well.

Now I run the Nitto Terra Grapplers in the 285/60/R18 E123S rated size. After my friends experience with these tires in the extra load (255/55/R18 109S XL) spec I decided to go with the E rated ones for the added toughness and deeper tread.
    see here: http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/terragrappler#size

I ran Ptarmigan Pass and McAlister's Gulch with these at the 2011 LR National Rally and they performed awesome. Great grip and traction even on slippery wet rocks. They are pretty quiet on the highway for an all terrain. I do have a two inch lift, had to remove the mud flaps, and some slight trimming of the wheel arch liner is recommended. They still rub at full articulation and certain angles, and they do rub slightly on the radius arms at full turn but the steering stops can be adjusted to eliminate this. I would recommend these tires however, IMO they are a little too wide and next time I will be going with BFG 265/75/R16 MTs which are roughly the same diameter but narrow enough that rubbing is not an issue.
