    New coolant leak, ideas? TIA

See some coolant dripping down from behind the engine onto the cross brace then onto the ground. Cooling system has been trouble free for a while now, I was under the assumption it was probably the hose going to the heater core on the backside of the engine dripping, just checked that and it's good. I can't find the leak but noticed under the upper intake, in that valley... Totally full of coolant, in that what do you guys think? Maybe one of those aluminum pipes running into the water pump is leaking from either the pump or the back side? Any hoses I should check before ripping the whole intake end of the motor off to get a clear view of the valley?

    Thanks again!

Brad its time to do your intake refresh ,
this will include swapping out the valley pan seal (get the updated part)
also replace the O rings on both ends of the tubes,
and replace the gaskets that connect the water bridge to the rear of each head,
and consider swapping out the valve cover seals and the PVC plate on the rear of the intake

If there a "refresh," kit online somewhere for purchase? Or do I need to order everything individual. I'm looking at rover parts now and I'm not entirely sure which parts I need as I haven't pulled the thing apart yet so I'm not sure what they look like.

I was looking at another thread on the valley pan gasket replacement, and there was mention of replacing the complete valley pan, not just the gasket. Is that the best way to go, or is it ok just to replace the gasket?

Searching roverparts and I'm still not sure what to buy... Also I don't see the pcv stuff, If I'm going to have it all open I might as well order all that stuff again. Anyone got a good source and part numbers? I'll keep searching.

    TIA

Atlantic British has the Gasket Coolant "Galley" (should be "gallery" as referred to in para. 26.35.40 of the RAVE manual) (LCW000010) for $89.95.
    Other parts are available too.
The rear PCV valve/manifold cover (LKR000040G) is $127.95. I've got one on back order from British Parts of Utah ($105.00), but that's a 3-week wait.
When replacing that, replace it's gasket too (LKJ000060G, $6.95).

These are the BMW parts I used when I did mine. The BMW parts are much cheaper. Good luck.

    Part Number Qty Description
    11 14 1 736 106 1 Valley Pan Plastic Cover
    13 71 1 741 097 4 Covering Caps/Clips for Valley Pan Cover
    11 14 1 742 042 1 Valley Pan with Integrated Gasket
11 53 1 731 833 2 Gasket For Coolant Crossover Pipe At Rear Of Engine
    11 53 1 710 055 2 Water Pump O-Ring (small)
    11 53 1 710 048 2 Water Pump O-Ring (large)
    11 61 1 433 328 4 Intake Manifold Gasket

I also got a water pump from auto zone for $40, but the gasket they gave me with it was pretty dodgy looking, so I ordered the LR gasket from atlantic british along with a new thermostat and some other assorted coolant hoses.

What else do I need? I'm assuming the o-rings for the coolant pipes (prob source of the leak), should I be pulling the coolant manifold off too, replacing those gaskets? Am I able to fit new o-rings in the coolant manifold without removing it? Are the o-rings the same for both ends of the pipe? 2 small for one side 2 large for the other? I'd imagine I'll also need a water pump gasket.

2X gasket for coolant cross over would be for the manifold on the back side of the engine right? If I'm looking at rav correctly to access that I'll need to basically be laying ontop of the engine yes? This doesn't look fun! Did you order from a BMW site you can recommend?

Looks like the site I ordered from now offers some of the parts as a kit:

So the exact thing you linked me to is what will work for our 4.4L ranges? I only ask because that site wants me to confirm my car and I can't... Good find that kit is 50 less than the sum of those parts on the other sites I'm looking on.

Nevermind, everything matches up with your list... Thanks... If you can think of anything else I should do I'm all ears.

And yeah that rear crossover pipe is a ****ing pain. I spent over an hour with my knees on the valve covers with a razor blade carefully scraping the old gaskets off. Can't even count how many times I dropped the stupid blade and had to go find it on the ground. I'm 6'7" too, so I would imagine I had a length advantage.

Yes, I did use those same parts, and I ordered them from that site (individually but that shouldn't matter). Haven't lost a drop a coolant since I did it. If you pick 2003 X5 4.4i that is the same engine (with minor differences). These particular parts are identical to the LR parts, they are only missing the logo

This sounds like a total nightmare of a job

What exactly is this galley thing that I'm needing to replace with a gasket/cover that has 20 bolts securing it... I'm sorry but looking a it in rav I have no clue what it does, never dealt with this part before and just want to make sure I know what everything is before I start pulling the whole thing apart. I'm ordering everything now and will likely do the work on sunday.

    Thanks a mill!
