    Electrical issues on 2007 HSE

    Hello all,
Just thought I'd list a few issues I've had with my Rover and see if anyone has any ideas to fix:

    1. Sunroof sometimes doesn't close back. It'll roll toward closing all the way but revert back to open soon afterward (only happens sometimes)

    2. Volume button doesn't work. When I turn it left, the volume sometimes increases (always happens - dealer thinks it needs software upgrade)

    3. CD player will either freeze at times and I can't do anything except change to a different CD......CD will reset to the first track upon start-up of vehicle (happens sometimes - dealer hasn't been able to make it happen so they haven't fixed it)

    4. A couple of times the nav screen dimmed. I tried adjusting while driving. When I turn the vehicle and start back up, it lit back up to normal brightness (happens sometimes - havne't discussed with dealer yet)

    5. And now I'm hearing a squeaky belt or something when I start the vehicle when I haven't driven it in a couple of days (haven't contacted dealer about this yet).

ANY ideas or experiences with these issues would be appreciated.

Oh no I thought the '07 models had no problems, that is what everyone keeps saying

Anyway most likely the sunroof track needs to be lubricated, it is probably just binding and causing it to reverse direction.

Regarding the stereo/nav unit... if it needs a software update, why don't they just make sure it has the latest software? If it does, then it does not need an update.

Regarding the belt squeal you could need a new belt, or perhaps a tensioner adjustment. Should be pretty trivial to inspect/adjust. If not the belt/tension then there are other possibilities, but best to eliminate the simple stuff first.

    Hi,

    1. My 2006 S/C had been doing that as well. If you hold the button down it will close it all the way shut. I haven't gotten around to looking at it closely but I do suspect/hope it's just a matter of "lubing" it.

2,3 & 4 - a software update should take care of those. At least on mine it did.

    5. I agree with linuxfreakus, it could be just a matter of a belt needing tension. Check the belts for cracks and regular wear, if they exist, replace. On my Defender, I used to use a bar of soap to run along the belt to quiet the squeak down.

    Good luck!

Duely noted, Linux. But if this is the type of problems that an '07 exhibits after 5 years, I still don't think you should try to compare. These issues are much easier to deal with than the steering column breaking or the front prop shaft breaking.

The belt squeal has a service bulletin out--something about modifying one of the pulley supports. If that doesn't do it, you have to get some new seal of some sort. I have the bulletin somewhere...

Wow! It never ceases to amaze me how informative you guys are. A little about my story.....I've been wanting the new bodystyle since I sat in one in 2002 at an auto show in Houston. But I was always a Lexus drivers and scared of the Rover reputation compared to my bulletproof LS's. I bit the bullet 2 years ago because I was told that the 2007 was the way to go! The service guy at the Land Rover dealer reinforced that I made a great decision before I signed the papers. He said that he hadn't seen many come back for the electrical gremlins compared to those in the past. I figured I'd keep it 6-7 years and then get the 2013 + bodystyle. So, when this stuff started happening I was thinking, uh-oh.

By the way, can someone explain the software upgrades? What are they? How often do you have to do them? I've never had a car that needed these.

It's no different than updating windows drivers or video card drivers. Cars are more and more reliant on computers. Instead of changing out hardware to change how somethign interacts or fix a design flaw you now update firmware or software to correct an issue.

Customers don’t expect you to be perfect.
They do expect you to fix things when they go wrong.

Re: Electrical issues on 2007 HSE

I've had several of the same issues and even more with my 07 Fullsize S/C...! Have owned it since new but, the truck seems to have a mind of it's own.

    * Radio volume increases on it's own.....occassionally. Just the other day....NAV screen completely blank and off. Radio light blinking....no sound. Parked, got out, locked it and unlocked it to start all over again....no problems!

    * Sat Radio was cutting out....occassionally, then coming back on! Needed a new Sat Radio module for about $500!

    * Moon roof....sometimes opens or closes with the "one touch" feature. Other times I have to hold the button throughout the entire operation.

    * Needed a new belt tenioner due to a "whining" noise.

    * BOTH front seats had cooling but no heat....at the same time! Weird because they both are independent of each other, from what I understand!

    * Needed new Air Pump Motor for suspension....motor was running/vibrating constantly.

    * Transmission banging or clunking when braking down from 2nd to first gears. Several "software upgrades" to correct this. Still does it on occassion!

Most of these items were covered by warrantee and repaired....thank goodness! Don't know if this all qualifies for having "electrical problems" as you stated but....you're not alone! LOL. I still love the truck and would get another one when I'm ready in a heartbeat, no problem!

I've read here that many electrical issues can be solved by a new battery.
