2004 L322 Accidental Ground of Positive Battery Terminal

Good day Rovers! I've just discovered this forum, and seek assistance to solve my problem. I have been experiencing alternator decline and have been trickle charging the battery weekly to compensate. My latest routine ended badly ... I was removing my battery charger cable from the positive terminal on the sub-bulkhead and managed to ground the cable while still connected to the terminal, causing a large arcing to occur. Now my car won't start...after either fully charging with 2 amp trickle charge or changing to 75 amp starting mode, when I change ignition key to pos 1, I have full interior lights and dash, but when I try to start the car, all lights die and I cannot turn the ignition, requiring another charging session.
My mechanic told me to look for a 60+ fuse either in glove box or back-right cubby fuse box...there I find 5-30 amp blade type and 50 amp maxi-fuses, so I check 5 front/2 rear 50 amp maxi-fuses, all good. There are 50-100 amp fusible links located in glove box, but it requires dismantling glove box assembly to access.
Rave: there are also 3 fusible links in a plastic box located behind the battery...a very likely spot to check for battery-related fusible links... but not one of the places my mechanic told me to look, and upon inspection, a very tight access, so I did not try to open the cubby cover.
Does anyone have another suggestion, or as I expect, should I tow the car to my mechanic to access the correct fusible link location and fix the problem?

    Richard

Richard, I don't have many suggestions for your current situation as I have been lucky enought to avoid it and so have no previous knowledge. However I do advise taking it to the "Rover Shop" in the N.E aka TRS Automotive. Land Rover Calgary is just going to suck your blood so don't even bother going to them :/

You could possibly rule some issues out by buying a new battery and going through the electrical troubleshooting guide near the top of the L322 page.

I have resolved my problem! Although the fault lies in my ultimate stupidity for grounding the positive terminal, that action found the real problem for no start ... I already use the Rover Shop for my repairs, and they sold and installed the new battery last year. Imagine my surprise when I discovered a loose positive terminal as the cause for no restart, when the arcing occurred, the loose terminal clamp must have lost its connection ... I never checked the battery terminal, assuming that the battery installer had tightened it successfully, I got onto the "I've just destroyed a daisy chain of 26 cpus" train instead of looking at the problem logically. Sure its a complex Rangie, but nothing works when improperly connected. Thanks for your response!

Battery was replaced in 2009 to be exact. 40,000km ago. Nice try Richard!

    Are you the 'rover shop'?

It seems that you or one of your technicians left the terminal loose. An 'I'm sorry' would be the minimum here I think (as a former owner of a repair shop).

To whom who knows nothing about the situation... is there a reason you used to own a shop? (don't assume you know the situation) maybe the clients likes to play too much under his own hood to avoid paying someone who knows what they are doing, and just maybe he played with his own battery connections. Just saying...
Thanks for your 2 cents from across the pond.

...and this baiting banter has nothing to do with resolution. Share the sand box nicely.

Customers don’t expect you to be perfect.
They do expect you to fix things when they go wrong.
