I am considering buying the expedition rack and am curious to know if you can mount any attachments to it, such as a Thule box for holding skis etc.? I suppose skis could just be strapped down in a bag, but having the option to do more would be cool. I know the standard rail system is good for skis etc, but I like the look of the expedition rack + I'll be able to haul other things around on it that don't fit on a normal rack.
Thoughts from anyone that has experience with one?
I have the expedition rack and a luggage box (about 3'x3') as well as a ski box - both imitation Thules but I assume the mounting is very close to the original. The squarish U-bolts used to mount the boxes work just fine on the rounded rack bars (especially for on-road only travel) and there are more than enough adjustment possibilities so that you can find 2 suitable crossbars.
The only issue I can see is the shark fin antenna hump at the rear of the rack and a wide ski box (I have a narrow box).
Kinda hard to see, but the 2 smaller crossbars in the middle over the shark fin actually go up about 1 1/2".
Give me the dimensions of your ski box and I'll measure if it fits.
That's great! Thanks for the reply. I don't actually have a ski box yet, I was just using that as an example. Great to know I will be able to use it for that though. I prefer the look to the standard rail rack system. How do you find the wind noise? That is the only complaint that I have heard.
